So I'm on a social media app called Amino and one of the Doctor Who sites has a hardline stance on spoiler warnings for any new episode but no real note on when it is no longer required to use a spoiler warning. So I'm just bringing the conversation here as my own views are that once an episode airs if you write a review you don't have to label a spoiler warning but should say if there aren't any spoilers.

Our policy is No spoilers until the episode actually airs. All our episode discussions allow spoilers. It's the same with our audio discussions. Although there usually aren't too many spoilers regarding those.

We can avoid the episode thread. But we can't avoid random spoilers if they are sprinkled all over in unexpected places. Our policy is to use spoiler tags if you are posting a spoiler, or posting in a designated thread clearly labeled as containing spoilers.

It's why I said we allow spoilers in our episode discussions after the episode airs. But yes if it's not in a designated thread marked Spoilers or Spoilers Allowed then Untagged spoilers wouldn't be allowed. I hope that clarifies!

As I personally say that once an episode is aired anything tagged with review or reaction shouldn't need a spoiler tag. I will of course cooperate it's just on a different site the suggestion is we should have spoiler tags for stuff aired fifty years ago.

I have on occasion put spoilers tags on old stories by accident (I think Dracula was one lol), but I think if something has been out for a few years it should really be up to the individual to decide. Common sense should prevail. I still haven't seen Rogue One (yes, I know) so I avoid anything relating to it - if I happen to come across a spoiler for it, that's my fault. However personally, I will always try to tag large spoilers (those that are crucial to a story and could spoil the enjoyment if found out beforehand - someone dying, I am your father etc.). Cheers Tony

Personally, once an episode airs, as long as the thread title is appropriate (i.e. the thread reader knows what the subject matter is) spoilers are fine, flagged or unflagged.

In those instances, people should be able to have common sense when posting. For example if someone says they are about to watch Earthshock for the first time, one should assume they do not know the content and not reply giving all the shocks away and then say "but it's 35 years old".

Yup, we did once have a long discussion on this site about whether, for example, the end of Earthshock should be spoiler-taggged. I think its important to remember that with a show like Who, just because something originally aired a long time ago does not mean everyone has seen it yet so spoiler tagging is a helpful courtesy.

This is why I titled the Alien: Covenant Thread with SPOILER TALK, because I knew people hadn't seen it as quick as I had, but for people who have its a place to talk about it and then once someone has seen it, they can join the convo from there if they like
