Star Wars, how can you cope with life without Star Wars....... I love it all, the good, the so so & the downright appalling! After the 3 proper movies, I love the clone wars series & rebels has its worth too, but have a soft spot for the 2 ewok movies/specials. Every so often I meet someone who tells me that they have never seen Star Wars. I don't know what to say to them. I usually realize right there that we have no mutual frame of reference to relate, and it then becomes awkward. Although I do know someone who had never seen a Star Wars movie and her boyfriend took her to see The Force Awakens. She loved it and the next time I saw her she had to find me and talk to me about it. My daughter-in-law wasn't allowed to watch Star Wars as a child cause scary movies gave her nightmares. When my son found out she had never seen Star Wars (this was when they were dating), he brought her over to our house for a Star Wars marathon of all six movies that were out at that time. |

Out of curiosity, in which order did they watch them? I think they started with A New Hope and through the first three that were made, cause we own the trilogy (on VHS, alas!  ). Then they went out to Blockbuster (remember Blockbuster?) to rent the later three. |

Then they went out to Blockbuster (remember Blockbuster?) to rent the later three. I've heard the suggestion that the ideal order for people who have never seen the movie is the "Machete Sequence": Star Wars followed by Empire. You end on Vader's revelation, then you jump back to Attack of the Clones and follow it with Revenge of the Sith (skip Phantom Menace entirely). Conclude with Return of the Jedi. I finally watched Captain America: Civil War the other day, and a younger character references the scene in Empire where the snowspeeders use their tow lines to bring down the Imperial walkers and suggests they apply it to their current situation. The rest of the team is like, "Yes, of course we've seen that movie. Tony, where did you find this guy?" I read afterward that there was an outcry on the internet: "How could a geeky character like that NOT have seen Empire?" and the answers were 1.) He was born 16 years after the release of Empire and 2.)The actor in the role has in fact not seen Empire. In many ways, Star Wars is bigger than it's ever been, but its not the ubiquitous cultural touchstone it was in our youth. |
