It's been 12 years since I saw star wars.
Yeah I know. There are very good reasons for this I won't bore you with. But
Last weekend. I got to watch it with my 8 year old daughter.
Yes I say rogue one and ep 7. But... the propper 3... hell 6... I've not seen for over a decade.
And it was good. I'd never noticed the way c3p0 rubs himself when getting out of the oil bath. And the special editoon really REALLY a noyes me in parts but hey... no change there.
My year old really liked it.
Also it makes the lego games make a LOT more sense.

We have them all (except Rouge One) and the kids love the Special Editions. Whereas Mrs Acousticwolf and I have a secret area on the server where we keep the Theatrical versions of 4-6 ... it's our guilty pleasure Cheers Tony

When I was growing up, I would relentlessly watch the Star Wars Trilogy, as well as Star Trek 1-4 & 6.
I tried to get my friends to watch Who with me, but they found it "slow and boring"........so we'd watch Star-something.
The point of all this is to say that I honestly could lie down in bed at night, decide I didn't watch to sleep, and replay entire portions of the Star Wars movies in my head. It seemed pretty much verbatim. Sound, dialogue, facial expressions, everything.
I wonder if they even sell the original versions any more. Han shot first.

I only get about 4 emails a year feed back... 47k downloads a month. But only 4 emails.

I know that Lucas declared that he would never sell them, but I don't know what the status is now that he no longer controls the property. I don't agree with every decision he's made, but I do admire his chutzpah. Things like wearing a "Han shot first" shirt and, after facing criticism for the Tarzan yell in Jedi, doubling down on it in the prequels by giving us two Tarzan yodeling wookiees.
There is a fan edit version called the Despecialized Edition: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Harmy%27s_Despecialized_Edition
I'm very sentimental about Star Wars. Seeing it at a drive-in when it was re-released prior to the debut of Empire is one of my very first specific memories.
I watched it with my daughter a couple years ago and she's since become at fan.
A long time ago in a galaxy with a six-year-old: Watching Star Wars with Lily

Star Wars, how can you cope with life without Star Wars.......
I love it all, the good, the so so & the downright appalling!
After the 3 proper movies, I love the clone wars series & rebels has its worth too, but have a soft spot for the 2 ewok movies/specials.

I would love a HD version of the theatrical releases. I can (kindof) understand why Lucas didn't want earlier edits available but fans like to own everything (just look at the number of Blade Runner edits).
Oh, and Han definitely shot first...
Cheers

Every so often I meet someone who tells me that they have never seen Star Wars. I don't know what to say to them. I usually realize right there that we have no mutual frame of reference to relate, and it then becomes awkward. Although I do know someone who had never seen a Star Wars movie and her boyfriend took her to see The Force Awakens. She loved it and the next time I saw her she had to find me and talk to me about it.

Used to watch the saga when ITV got round to showing it (usually doing 1 film a week, and they did that about once a year). Sadly since the Disney purchase ITV doesn't seem to have the rigehts anymore so back to DVD (I've no idea which which edition the DVDs are).

As far as I know if you want the theatrical (cinema) release, you need this boxset: Three (thin) DVD cases, holding 2 discs per film - One of the special editions of the film (can't remember which one) and a bonus disc that has the original cinema release - quality is iffy (not remastered etc), but if you want to watch the original versions, I think this is the only way to get them (at the moment). I haven't seen the boxset on sale, but the individual films can still be got from Amazon UK (just have to make sure they are the right ones). Cheers Tony

I teach writing at a university and occasionally, to make a point, I will make a reference to Star Wars in my classes and I will get a surprising number of blank looks so I'll ask and a significant portion of the class, sometimes as much as half, have never seen Star Wars (any of them). On the other hand, I can mention the latest internet meme/viral sensation and they all know it and will practically explode with commentary about it.
The world is a different place every day, but somewhere along the way there has been a significant shift. I think part of it is that there's just too much stuff out there now competing for our attention. When I was a kid pretty much every one of my geek friends had a common language and common points of reference for discussing such things. Now, there's so much out there that it's impossible to keep up with it all. Too many movies, too many TV shows, too many comics and novels and video games, and too much of it is consumed too quickly and then forgotten about in favor of the next thing to consume, all of which moves at such a pace that it's just not possible to experience everything. I frequently hear my geek friends talk about something they're into that I have never even heard of. When I met my wife and we discovered we had a mutual love of anime, we started asking each other if we'd seen certain shows and we found not a single anime in common that we'd both seen, despite having dozens of popular shows named in the discussion.
I am a great fan of the original versions of the original Star Wars trilogy and I treat my DVDs that have the theatrical cuts with great care. I do not loan them out to anyone! The rest of Star Wars has not really captured my imagination. Of the last five Star Wars films, I've liked one of them (Episode III) so I feel my Star Wars fandom has diminished, but I still hold the original trilogy close to my heart.

I have 2 of the statues you could get. Grevioys and yoda Clone Wars or The Clone Wars? Because the latter was amazingly good (aside from the film, even though you had to watch it). The introduction of Ahsoka Tano to the canon was one of the best things they ever did. And have you watched Rebels? I found Clone Wars dreadful. Loved Samurai Jack but that style didn't work for me in Star Wars. Not to mention they somehow managed to make Anakin MORE annoying. Unlike the Matt Lanter version.
