Where Jon Pertwee is forever 'my' Doctor, similarly Roger Moore is 'my' James Bond (and for all my friends from school back then.) Although it sometimes became fashionable in later years to sneer at the glossy, lighter style of his Bond films, that wasn't at all what we thought. Each new film was a huge, immensely popular and much-discussed event which made for a memorable 'night at the movies'. An epic double bill of 'Live and Let Die' & 'The Man with the Golden Gun' is a very happy memory but the standout was (and for me still is) 'The Spy Who Loved Me'. It's the archetypal 'Bond movie' with a beautiful, clever Russian spy, a grandiose, globe-trotting plot in stunning locations, an uber-villain and his steel-jawed henchman - and that underwater car. I still want that car... Films to entertain and excite but (for all the quite spectacular 'violence' - death by helicopter, rocket, shark, teeth!) always 'cartoony' enough to never be unpleasant or unsuitable for the teen I then was. Stirred, but never shaken! To my parents he was 'The Saint', to me, 'Mr. Bond'. A British icon who gave his roles pure style.

Just rewatched A View to a Kill (my 1st Bond and I think my 1st trip to the cinema when it was 1st released) RIP Sir and thanks for endeavouring to forever "Keep the British End up" Regards mark687

The first of the big screen 007s to go. And I'm sorry, I don't count the original Casino Royale. I generally loved Roger Moore as a performer but outside of The Man With The Golden Gun & For Your Eyes Only, I had serious problems with his Bond movies. Anyway, goodbye Sir Roger.

As a child he was my favorite Bond but as I haven't watched any Bond in years I am not sure how I would feel about it now. But lets talk about some of his non Bond roles. I've been meaning to check out The Saint, maybe if there are reruns on I will do so now. A friend of mine also recommended the Persuaders with Tony Curtis. I also recently came to know him as Beau in Maverick. He took over at the time for James Garner although only stayed on for 1 years (I don't entirely blame him the scripts at this point were not very good). Although back to Maverick he was on an earlier episode with James Garner called Rivals (before Moore was cast as Beau) where Moore's character and Garner's switch places. This episode is a true classic and really shows Maverick at its creative height.

The Saint, especially after it moved to color, is one of my favorite TV shows.

While he was not what I like in my Bond, I LOVED Roger as The Saint and in The Persuaders. My fave role of his though might be a toss up between his badass assassin in The Wild Geese and his lovely turn in the Amicus-like The Man Who Haunted Himself.

He had that great acting talent that no matter the role he played he was always Roger Moore...
...and I loved him because of that.

The (im)perfect end to an (im)perfect day...
Now, if anyone needs me, I'm going to be watching 'Octopussy' for the first time in easily a decade...

I was just watching The Saint the other day... For a very long time as a kid, The Spy Who Loved Me was one of my favourite films... Dammit.
Sir Roger Moore.
So much has been encapsulated in just those three words.
Known for playing a knight on television as Sir Ivanhoe before becoming a real world one in acknowledgment of his charity work abroad. A UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador with the charm and sophisticated flair of Charteris's Simon Templar. A gentleman globetrotter who met with Bond's own rank of commander in the French Order of Arts and Letters.
Here was a man who well and truly earned his Saintly halo.
Sir Roger Moore – beloved and dearly missed.

A national treasure,a awesomely suave James Bond (Live & Let Die being one of my all time favourite Bonds), the best actor to play Simon Templar & made eyebrow acting look cool,r.i.p Roger you kept the British end up sir, gone but never forgotten.
I remember going to see Octopussy at the cinema in 1983 as a 8yr old kid & that was my introduction to Bond & I've been a Bond fan ever since, highly recommend checking out Roger's autobiography 'My Word Is My Bond' a cracking read that features some hilarious anecdotes.
Absolutely heartbroken hearing of his passing today.
