Nice. Good to see the flawed argument about ratings hasn't affected the BBC's love of the show.

Fits in with Moffat's previous claim of a plan up to 2020, though this confirmation goes beyond that. Good to see the BBC so invested in Doctor Who.

Hate to burst your bubble, but this doesn't mean series 12-15 are confirmed - it just means Shanghai Media Group Pictures will have the rights to them if/when they are made.

The positive side is having that interest from that large a market will hopefully help them become a reality. It will be interesting to see if we suddenly get episodes set in China or featuring Chinese actors as is happening more and more with American films.

And to think some were claiming the show would end after Chris Chibnall's era... Chibnall could do five years... I don't think he will, though. Something tells me that, if Chibnall leaves in 2020, they'll want to get Mike Bartlett as producer.

Even so, they wouldn't give them the rights to Series 12-15 if they weren't confident they would be made. If it's not an official confirmation, it's a practical one.

Knock Knock was a classic IMO.

I'm just thinking because he's been head writer on numerous projects... and with how they picked Chibnall... he's more likely than anyone else.

I could imagine Mike Bartlett's era having a very 'classical' feel if that makes sense. Probably a lot of episodes set in a singular location like Midnight - a theatrical tone with tense pacing.

Why are they selling broadcast rights to series not confirmed but its a positive indication I suppose.

$20 or the appropriate equivalent says our next companion is Chinese because of this.
