That's pretty conclusive evidence of a cancellation i.m.o...I had no interest in Class anyway, but it's hardly a surprise to see it flop when there was hardly any advertising...

Well, I'm a little heartbroken. He wrote all of the episodes and it was very much his series.
I would give Class a chance. It's a great series, warts and all. Think Buffy, but with more realistic consequences and reprecussions for the characters struggling under the weight of the unknown of the strange unknown universe. It's a nice antithesis to many a teen drama and Ness captures the stumbling tumbling feeling of adolsensence incredibly well. The characters are grounded, realistic, human and flawed - actual teenagers - and the series never lets you forget it.

Count me as another fan of Class. The Metaphysical Engine or What Quill Did was an amazing episode. This news saddens me, but it's far from unexpected. RIP Class. Here's to a theoretical Big Finish continuation.

It's not really in Big Finish's wheelhouse, sadly, though. Still, there's hope - how did it perform in the US? I think what hurts is the BBC just didn't promote it. And that's bizzare. They commisioned it - they wanted the publicity and noetrity of a teenage Doctor Who spin-off - and then got cold feet about how to market it and kids watching it. It's possible with all the licencise fee problems, the BBC just didn't want to weather that controversy.

I'm not surprised, and Ness has pretty much summed up why it failed - lack of decent promotion and ridiculous BBC1 slot 3 months after it aired online. It wasn't perfect, and probably could have done with more writers, rather than Ness by himself. He claimed that BBCA love the show so maybe it's not totally dead, that or BF could continue it, even if only to wrap up the cliffhangers.
It's a shame, because whilst I was doubtful of it when they first announced it, I watched it out of curiosity and enjoyed it. It was very Buffy - not nearly as perfect, mind you - but it had plenty of potential. It'd be a shame for it not to get a second season, if only to see how they build on that potential.

I will be very disappointed if Big Finish don't release a one-off Class box set. I find it a little disappointing that they seem to have no interest in Sarah Jane Adventures Companion Chronicles with the Bannerman Road Gang.

even good writers can produce turkeys from time to time.
stick to your novels and leave TV to those understand how to it.

Personally I doubt they would ever bother looking into the rights for this. I seriously doubt there is enough desire for it in any format.

I wouldn't have thought there'd be much demand for Counter Measures, but obviously there is.

Yeah, I can't see Class continuing or returning at BF, there was what, 200-400,000 viewers for most episodes? It just hasn't made the impact, my parents and sibling who watch and enjoy Who (most of the time) are more casual viewers (no interest in BF) had never heard of Class and very few of the Who fans I know actually bothered watching it. Patrick Ness has moved on, the young actors have probably done the same and their voices might age them out of the role. I could perhaps see BF treating Series 1 as an extended pilot/inspiration and semi-rebooting the series with one or two of the same characters, similar plots and the setting...but if it didn't appeal to casual viewers and Who fans alike on TV, why would it on audio?
