I just had a genius idea as to how the BBC should bring back Doctor Who Confidential.
Make it a hidden camera reality show based on television production. You see the raw human personalities of those involved rather than an image they try to convey.
They would have no idea where the cameras are, and they would be running the entire time they are on set, so you could see whoever is playing The Doctor having a tense confrontation with the director, or Chris Chibnall/whoever welcoming the lead companion actor on his/her first day.
How cool would that be if we were able to see how these people are when they don't realise the cameras are running?
*I don't mean in the style of rubbish like TOWIE and Made In Chelsea. More like I'm A Celebrity with a behind the scenes programme.

No, no just no.
I would love to see a revival of Doctor Who Confidential, but hidden camera reality type show, never.

This would be invasive and unnecessary. Just because these people work in television does not make them public property.

Dalek, you really should have more respect for your future industry peers and colleagues than this.

Alternatively, we could bring back Doctor Who Confidential by voting for a government that doesn't restrict BBC funding.

The beauty of reality television is that it can be manipulated for whatever message the producers want to give. Include enough drama to create tension/entertainment but cut anything that slanders them. You'd also have to get them to sign release and consent forms so anybody unhappy with it wouldn't be included anyway.

This sounds like it would just get in the way of the actual production, or just be plain intrusive. Plus what if a director refuses a release form? Are you gonna blur their face, if so what's the point?

I'm not saying they should show a director or actor as a Lady C, I just think it would interesting to see the conflicts that take place during a single camera production like you see on airport shows. If the director doesn't sign a release form, you could focus on a different aspect.

I wouldn't be interested in this in the slightest and I doubt the BBC would ever sign off on it. If you're going to give me behind the scenes material, I want it to be informative stuff about how the effects were done, how the actors approached the scenes, and how the writers and directors came up with their ideas and takes on the story, not petty set drama played up for ratings.

If I want a fly on the wall show with manufactured drama, I'll watch the "reality" crap that I avoid at all costs.

Frankly the money would be better spent creating really good extras to include with the DVD release. Given the cost of the full season sets in Canada (often starting between $60 to $80 for BBC products) I'd rather see content that hasn't already been on tv and preferably content that is more informative than Confidential was.

Agreed, the DVD special features on the new series boxed sets (which mostly seem to be EPK TV Spots) can't hold a candle to the special features on the classic series DVDs.

I'd want actual behind the scenes. I want interviews with the monster actors and the choreographers and how they made costumes and sets. I don't want to see a director bickering with whichever guest star is there that week.
