Now look, I'm cringing...because this sort of blatant self-promotion makes me die a little inside. BUT... I've been trying to get this series of books off the ground for about ten years off and on and, frankly, they're going to need all the help they can get if they're to survive. SO PLEASE FORGIVE ME. The lovely publishers have put this up: The Change. Basically: one morning terrible things appear in the sky. Those who saw them died instantly, the rest found themselves in a world that had gone mad. The series takes the culture and geography of certain locations to weave monsters and magic. London now has cat/human hybrids fighting roller-booted gangs in the West End; Paris is besieged by The Impressionists, strange beings made from paint; New York's Coney Island is now full of the ghosts of sideshows gone by. Simply: I look at a place and wonder how I can make it nuts. There are six books coming thus far, two set in London, two set in New York (both of which feature ongoing characters) plus one in Paris and one in Tokyo. If the series actually sells, my hope is to keep expanding it, furthering the ongoing adventures for London and New York plus more one-offs in other cities. A global bit of world building. They're sort of aimed at the Young Adult market but, honestly, they're mainly just aimed at me! Having wanted to do this for so long I just got carried away and let rip. The New York books in particular are the strangest -- and yet, I hope, most fun -- things I've ever written. Anyway, any help members can offer spreading the word about the series is hugely appreciated. And again, sorry to be beating my own drum so ruthlessly. I know it's AWFUL.

Thanks for bringing it to our attention. The series sounds fascinating and I am looking forward to reading it.
But one question right now it says the Kindle version is unavailable to preorder. Will that change?

You're all terribly lovely not to just hurl abuse at my horrible self-promotion. kimalysong How strange, they're certainly available to preorder on the UK Amazon via the link in the publisher's press release thing. Are you in the US? The Solaris webstore (the publisher's own site) has them in Mobi formats too though I appreciate that route is never as neat as getting direct from the Kindle store. You're ever so kind to want to preorder though, thank you! It certainly makes a difference and is ever so appreciated. Gx

The Kindle edition is available for pre-order on Amazon Canada and in the U.S (must have changed since yesterday). Though neither has the physical edition available yet.

I'm not any kind of artist but I'm sure that the traditional lifestyle choices of either starving in obscurity and a garret or relying on an aristocratic patron are very outdated. So, 'blatant self-promotion' is essential in the free market and we don't mind a bit! DU is full of people who like buying great stories and it's always good to hear about more! The concept sounds wonderfully strange; great ideas of Impressionist paint-beings and ghostly fairground sideshows - there's always something 'unreal' about fairgrounds to start with, I think. Best wishes for your project and I'll certainly be taking a look. On the Big Finish side of things, I enjoyed UNIT:Assembled very much indeed. 'Tidal Wave' was my favourite episode (predictably - it starred Jo!) and I loved the way you let her succeed where her Doctor (and 'mine') had suffered a rare failure. And I thought Jo and Osgood's partnership was so well done, 'Doctor' and companion with Jo now in the lead role. Also recently, I've been thrilled by 'The Triumph of Sutekh' and I thought your opening episode was terrific; an exciting nostalgia-fest and my introduction to Prof. Benny too. I think I became a confirmed Benny fan after about the first minute!

Thank you! You're certainly right in that blatant self-promotion is somewhat necessary these days, especially with projects like this that are, honestly, a bit of a tough sell. I'm just not terribly good at it! I remember being on a convention panel once, watching in terror and awe as the panelist next to me methodically placed their novels in front of them, a display of wares. They were barricaded behind an advert to themselves. I couldn't decide if it was amazing or just horrible! But then, I'm English, we never did embrace confidence.
So glad you liked Tidal Wave. Jo Jones is just the most wonderful character to write. Pairing her with Osgood is just the loveliest thing, I could write the two of them forever.
Glad you enjoyed Triumph of Sutekh too. Benny's great fun, you have lots of lovely listening ahead of you. I've always loved Benny's adventures and being involved in her travels over the last few years has been terribly exciting. You can't beat a bit of Bowerman.
