Twin Peaks (1990) Season 1 Pilot (Potential Spoilers)
Where to start... Oh yes, with the cheesey but lovable acting. The soap opera style of acting for the residents of Twin Peaks compared to the quirky but less exaggerated character of Agent Cooper creates brush strokes of real vs. fake and really engrosses you in the plot, which by no small feet creates a wonderfully curious mystery that I cannot wait to continue with. But the greatest piece to this is the wonderful ambiance and mood created by excellent directing, camera work, lighting, sound design etc. Production really went all out. Here's to Twin Peaks.

I'm glad to hear how much you enjoyed the pilot, Masterdoctor. Your comments touch on one of the defining things about the show: they were doing cinema on television. Not so uncommon now, but quite astonishing to see back in 1989. I saw some commentary recently that discussed how difficult it is to quantify Twin Peaks because it's such a unique mashup of genres, as you point out. The show is essentially it's own genre.
