There’s a horror movie called Alien? That’s really offensive. No wonder everyone keeps invading you.

Such a nice touch: I love the Frobisher era. The continuity is pants but the stories are so damn fun!

And, of course, "Spare Parts" is saved too.
Moffat will never by my favourite guy but between this and "Night Of the Doctor" he's done right by us fans of the greater Doctor Who Universe.

Yes, it was nice. It's a story that shouldn't work, but somehow through Grant Morrison it really does, there's some nice little additions with another advanced TARDIS and I think the first depiction of a proper Time Lord death (they degenerate into random molecules). It's also got a really nice epilogue with two Time Lords which I think sums them up beautifully: Unfortunately, the continuity doesn't work because of the aforementioned pants nature of The World-Shapers itself -- the idea is based on the Doctor mentioning a scene he wasn't present for in The Invasion -- but a reference to relatively obscure comic stories is always fun.

Does this mean that Frobisher is properly canon now?

Does this mean that Frobisher is properly canon now? I was just thinking that myself! It's funny how in 11 weeks we've gone from a "soft reboot" to Alpha Centuri and Frobisher.

Does this mean that Frobisher is properly canon now? Well, if the Eighth Doctor's Big Finish companions get a mention and that counts... Yes? Yes, I think so. Televised canon, at any rate. At the very least, it includes the Voyager arc, War-Game, Funhouse, The Six Champions and The World Shapers. Six Frobisher stories from the outset with an additional two Peri/Frobisher stories. Not including standalone stories that people will naturally throw in. You know, it's really nice to be peddling away at a story for these guys in the background and have the television series acknowledge them. Through a quirk of the universe, it's unintentionally rather charming.

I've just reread it . It's quite a fun read, tbh. And, as the Doctor says in 'The Doctor Falls', the cybermen happen everywhere there's people: Mondas ('Spare Parts'), a Mondasian ship ('World Enough and Time'), Pete's World's Earth ('The Age of Steel'), Marinus/Planet 14 ('The World Shapers')... And then they evolve and adapt, probably merging and uniting into armies like the ones we've seen or been told about in stories like 'A Good Man Goes to War', 'Nightmare in Silver' or 'Sword of Orion'. Also, in this line in the comic book the Doctor could have been talking metaphorically, rather than literally; a Mondas, not the Mondas.

Well, I'm just hoping for the return of Frobisher next season. Best. Companion. Ever.

Also, in this line in the comic book the Doctor could have been talking metaphorically, rather than literally; a Mondas, not the Mondas. That's a really good way of looking at it actually. It's not a bad story, just a bit troublesome to reconcile with its continuity (and ultimate fate of a beloved companion). Grant Morrison had also written Changes, which gave us a battle in the TARDIS with a hostile shapeshifter and Culture Shock which was all about a despondent Seventh Doctor rescuing a cell culture from extinction. I think I go into this more on Billy2's Cybermen timeline, but the actor who played the Cyberleader -- David Banks -- came up with this glorious lineage for the Cyber-race and all the variations that spawned over the years. Some spawned from early reconnaissance groups from Mondas, others from deep space, others from Telos and some exist as a product of merging "subspecies". From memory, the only reason the Cybermen from Earthshock forward exist is because the Cybermen from Revenge era rediscovered the tombs on Telos and merged with them.
