We threw off the shackles of the hated British 241 years ago. How will you be celebrating? I'll probably watch some Doctor Who

I'll probably be watching some Doctor Who, too. So much for throwing off shackles. Though I may go to see Wonder Woman.

Been trying to get a friend to come see it with me, but she and I can't seem to coordinate our schedules. So I may go by myself. Or see if I can drag my spouse with me. Then again, I may just go after work one day.

We threw off the shackles of the hated British 241 years ago. Best wishes for Independence Day to all our friends in the United States, from the home of the greatest show in television history. 'Doctor Who': Created in England. By a Canadian. Written in English. Played by a Scot. Made in Wales. And not in America. Except for the long one that wasn't very good at all.

I remembered to add that very important fact just before you reminded me! (And a belated happy Canada Day. It never gets as much of a mention here as July 4th, but actually did this year because of 150th anniversary and the royal visit.)

I suspect you're mocking us, but the education I received here through the public school system is so inadequate that I can't quite be sure I'm going to throw a bunch of tea into Boston Harbor just to be on the safe side.

Make sure you pay the taxes on it this time...

I suspect you're mocking us As if I would do such a thing, even though as one of "the hated British" I suppose it's my hereditary duty! Instead (being serious for once), I will be celebrating July 4th by phoning friends in the States and catching up on happy memories of travels in your great nation. (Also have happy memories of Canada's warm welcome to some Brits abroad too.) As far as 'Doctor Who' is concerned, when (in the U.S. in the early 80s) I discovered a TV channel showing nightly repeats of Tom Baker stories, I knew I had reached the true home of Western Civilisation. We almost never got repeats here. One evening, I converted an American Trekkie to the delights of 'Doctor Who', using only The Power of Kroll.

My last day of a long weekend. Sadly most of it I've been ill and couldn't do much but watch old game shows on this channel called Buzz-R Though I also plan to watch some of the Twilight Zone marathon later. That is a July 4th tradition. No British TV today that would just be wrong
