Well, my friend's not gonna watch it any more... And he's a massive fan. Rip half of fandom. Ratings for Series 11 - 1 million overnights... HA! That is hysterical. I look forward to quoting you on that.

The Doctor was always a strange, other-worldly-looking eccentric Except for when The Doctor wasn't. Davison, McCoy, McGann, Eccleston, Tennant....they just look like normal guys. Eccentric performances or costumes, perhaps, but just looking at them doesn't suggest some kind of alien-ness at all. Maybe you are right. As I say, I'm not sure what to think about it all and am just batting ideas around. Jodie has apparently said "I don't want Who fans to be scared of my gender." I'm not sure what I think of that either. I'm not particularly scared of the female gender, but I'm not sure I welcome the idea of a female Doctor. I'm not sure I like my unsure-ness about a female Doctor being classified as 'being scared'. As for the above, I'll give you Davison, and I had already mentioned Tennant (edited - actually, I didn't mentioin Tennant, did I? I meant to!). But I find McCoy, McGann (in the Doctor's wig, of course) and Eccleston have a 'not conventionally' attractive face (I really mean no offence here), whereas Jodie is conventionally attractive. I would say any from that list exudes a certain alienness ... but perhaps that's because I have seen them all be very good as The Doctor. As I say, don't hold me to these words! I could change my mind, and hope that when I watch her (because of course I will be wathcing), I'll be hoping she wins me over.

It was live primetime BBC1 between the Wimbledon men's final and the Doubles final. You don't get bigger viewing figures than that would have pulled in. Logical enough. Also, Peter was announced during an anniversary year, so the Beeb were going to give it more whizz-bang and razzle dazzle. Thing is, to turn this a little bit grimmer and sadly believable, if they had done a live show, there's every chance there could've been an incident, given how hot button-y this is. Regardless if you did or didn't want her, I hope you're all mature to not wish for Jodie to get harrassed or booed at her first appearance. Us lot, be mature....we are getting all hot un the collar for a kids show! not mature, but no boo's against her, but maybe a few at the show runner who made the call, not because she is a woman, but it's going to be mum in the tardis and not slightly mad uncle in there.

Well I'm dissapointed by this decision, I've always thought that making The Doctor female was a bad idea. Hopefully I'll be proven wrong.

I will say this: Episode 1 of S11 has to land. Chibnall has given himself an Olympian task now, and I would not want to be in his shoes...
If he even thinks of doing jokes about bras, skirts or heels when we get the new costume scene, I will invent a machine to reach through the screen and give Chris a really, REALLY, hard 'neck massage'.

HA! That is hysterical. I look forward to quoting you on that. Shame, but it's true. And I'd say that it's mostly older fans (who don't use social media), casual viewers and have already given up. Typical SJW pandering BS. The 1 million overnights for Series 11 are true? Why are you not the next Doctor with that level of time-travel skill?

Typical SJW pandering BS. But judging by what I'v read on facebook/reddit this has already intrigued quite a few people who have never watched the show, maybe it will bring in a new audience.

I still think sex-change regeneration was an utterly pointless addition from an in-universe perspective, motivated solely by real-world politics, but there you go. I would've liked the only show I can really call myself a "fan" of to avoid infection by real-world concerns like that. But once they made noises about it, they made this more or less inevitable.
I guess we'll just have to wait and see...

I wish I'd written that - that's extremely well put.

I've just watched the trailer again and I quite like the idea of Jodie as The Doctor.
I can't stand the confusion in my mind, and all that ...

Maybe we will end up with a male Romana to balance things out...

Whilst I would love to have Capaldi for another series, I am thrilled Doctor Who is once more doing what it better than any other TV show....reinventing itself. I will always come back to the point that Doctor Who has always been a show than can do anything, can go anyplace and has change written into its DNA. What I have seen of Whittaker has been positive and I am happy to see the show striking out in a new direction. A female Doctor allows the show to tell stories with a new twist and a different vibe. That is essential for the long term viability of the show. I'm sure this will get tons more people to tune in for that first episode and if Chibnall delivers on the writing end this will open the door to a new generation's worth of fans. I really don't understand the resistance to a female Doctor. It's an exciting time.

So now I want a strong male companion. The first such since Turlough. No, Jack was...Jack. Mickey was a part timer, and Rory was good but Rory was there because of Amy, not for himself, in contrast to Ian and Barbara arriving together.

Would have been disappointed if next doctor wasn't female. Obviously I don't watch enough tv as have no idea who Jodie Whittaker is.

Typical SJW pandering BS. Well based on the fire-fighting I've just done over on Facebook quite a lot of older fans do use social media. Equally a few of them were willing to give her a chance. Casual viewers are difficult to judge, but Twitter seems positive. It's a risk, and it may pay off. I wouldn't be so quick to judge.

See, I think the companion role becomes a really interesting thing to look at with the change. The more I wrap my brain around this, the more excited I become. Series 11 can't come soon enough.
