In the notes section for The Guardian of the Solar System it's mentioned that there were plans for a new writer to start a second Sara Kingdom trilogy, but it's now 7 years later and, unless I'm mistaken, we haven't heard anything else about it. Does anyone know what happened to it, or what it was going to be about?

Like the plans for the second Lela trilogy, which started with The Child, time must have run out before it could be carried out. Alternatively it was meant for the slot the Oliver trilogy ended up filling.

"The Child" was near the end of the regular CCs, and it was released shortly after Tom came on board, which presumably lessened the need for Fourth Doctor CCs. The Sara trilogy ended long before the end was on the horizons, so I presume any planned second trilogy was just never followed up.

It's certainly a work that stands on its own merits. Anyway, we still got one regardless with The Anachronauts, An Ordinary Life and The Sontarans. Just not linked together by the House.
Considering that period now looks something like this: I don't think we've been particularly shortchanged by its absence. It's one of my favourite periods for the First Doctor now.

As a rule of thumb, I'm not a massive fan of putting new stories into existing ones. However, I make a big exception for The Daleks' Master Plan. An epic transformed into something much more.
It's no wonder the Doctor regenerates shortly after!

It's no wonder the Doctor regenerates shortly after! Thank Jon Peel, who put that gap in when he novelised Daleks' Master Plan.

My theory is that the three slots for this second Sara Kingdom trilogy were instead taken by the stories in the Oliver Harper trilogy. The Guardian of the Solar System was released in July 2010, and The Perpetual Bond February 2011. Both The Cold Equations and The First Wave drew heavily from what Simon Guerrier was studying at the time, so would have helped the writing process.

I think I never happened, because poor jean marsh had quite a major stroke a short while after this trilogy was released.
She has made a good recovery but has not worked a lot since.
Although she has done some early adventures, I think her availability & health it was probably thought best not to continue along with the CC's coming to an end.

The House trilogy did wrap up just over halfway through the monthly range, and Jean was able to record The Anachronauts with Peter Purves (released roughly 18 months later). So maybe Oliver Harper and his story arc was what Simon pitched when it was discovered that Jean was unavailable. He says in the behind the scenes interviews how lucky he was to be commissioned to write three linked stories to be released over just under a year (February, June and November 2011).

Out of curiosity, how would you guys place the Sara stories from Big Finish in order? I've just recently listened to the audiobook of The Daleks' Master Plan and fancy listening to the BF audios for expansion again, but can't think of the correct order at this moment in time!

Little Drummer Boy ST andEarly Adventures before the CC Trilogy
As to the CC Trilogy itself:
For the DMP sequences its in the reverse order of release.
For The House sequences its in release order
So for the CCs listening in release order should be an easier listen overall but its up to you.

I know 'The Sontarans' is the last one in chronological order as it's ending leads directly back into The Daleks Masterplan, hope that helps

Thanks for the information guys. There's a few different ways to listen then! I think I'll go with the Short Trips and Early Adventures, followed by the Companion Chronicles. All in the order of release.

The Sara trilogy in the Companion Chronicles is one of the absolute pinnacles of Big Finish, isn’t it? Fantastic set of stories that are emotional and rich with atmosphere. The House arc is gripping, particularly in Guardian of the Solar System, which I think has the weakest story involving the Doctor, but still top drawer stuff.
I just have The Sontarans to go now!
