The writer certainly is a pleasant surprise. Well done Tony Jones! How's it feel to write for an officially (to be) released product? The writers pool from the subscriber short trips is definitely being dipped into.

Oh Tony Jones , we are not worthy. Congratulations and the Second Doctor is one of my favourite eras as well, so looking forward to it. Cheers Tony Seconded, congratulations! How thrilling to write a CC for such a special era and such great companion actors. The CC box sets have been outstanding and 'the next one' was always a definite pre-order for me. Now then, no hints, we do understand (and no answers of any kind are being sought!) but, just for fun, what can we deduce... (if anything) from one line: '1. The Tactics of Defeat by Tony Jones' The first story in the set so the earliest in the the Second Doctor's era (in this set). So, not a Jamie and Zoe story obviously, but I did wonder: just how early? Could it possibly be the pre-Jamie, Second Doctor, Polly and Ben story that has been speculated about before? Having heard Anneke Wills' and Elliot Chapman's excellent two stories in the recent First Doctor set, maybe this is the time we hear his Second Doctor? Whatever, I'm looking forward to finding out. June 2018 then!

Could it possibly be the pre-Jamie, Second Doctor, Polly and Ben story that has been speculated about before? Having heard Anneke Wills' and Elliot Chapman's excellent two stories in the recent First Doctor set, maybe this is the time we hear his Second Doctor? That would be neat. If they ever do an EA with that team, there's no reason they can't keep Frazer in as the narrator/Doctor even if Jamie doesn't appear, but for a CC you don't need that. Elliot could even be the sole narrator of the piece, though. A Ben-first-person story. And I do hope that we get some interesting formats for CC this time around - non-era two/three-handers like Mastermind or The Time Museum, framing stories like the Zoe and Sara trilogies... With the EAs as the period-accurate pieces that they are, the CCs should be radical and different.

My money is on a murder during a cricket match, with a shape-shifting alien at the heart of things.
OK, maybe not.

My money is on a murder during a cricket match, with a shape-shifting alien at the heart of things. OK, maybe not. I can see it now: 'The Silly MidOnSummer Murders' (Surely someone must have done a spoof called that already!) Played at night and with an early appearance by Frobisher disguised as a rather unusual pink ball...? No, they'd never do that, obviously; people would believe in the alien, but not the night match or the pink ball. He could just come as the usual penguin and sit incognito in the more lively part of the stands, with all the humans who have also come as penguins...

He could just come as the usual penguin and sit incognito in the more lively part of the stands, with all the humans who have also come as penguins... Coincidently, and not wishing to distract from Tony's fine achievement, I spent a good hour led on the couch yesterday listening to Test Match Special which featured a thing on how cricket balls are made. Including the new pink ones. Fascinating stuff, but also a reminder that at 43 I'm getting old. The wife and kids looked dismayed that I could be so glued to such a 'boring' subject. I'll tell you about the Bee I followed around the garden some other time. We'll done Tony!
