No. There are millions of ways to seperate Peter and Mary-Jane, a deal with he literal devil in order to save an Octinagarian isn't one of them.

Not the way it happened no. JMS wasn't happy with how his intentions were changed

No, it shouldn't. I thought One More Day was a terrible story. (Quesada's artwork was very good though.)

No, definitely not. Editorial edicts shouldn't drive creative decisions. It was not only a bad story decision, but it confused many readers. I myself couldn't accept the arbitrary new continuity and felt that I didn't recognize the characters anymore - not after the decisions Peter and MJ were forced through by the demands of the story's outcome. It drove me away from the Spider-man titles and I've never returned.

Absolutely not. Peter's been dragged through the mud but he got an absolute beating during Back in Black and that all development disappeared. Aunt May had been brought back to life before, it could have happened again. They should have let Peter age and given him a kid with MJ. Bring a new status quo to the Marvel universe. Show what he goes through as a new father and balancing that life as a functional adult with being a superhero and a new father. I can think of so many interesting stories with that new set up. At least the original plan didn't go through. Can you imagine Gwen Stacy still being alive and well in 2017?

In fact, if they wanted to end the marriage - Superior Spider-Man. Otto Ocarvius has a toxic personality, he'd drive Mary-Jane away and "I was possessed by Doctor Octopus" is mental even by Marvel Comics standards.
