The Sixth Doctor seems so perfect for a story with the Scarlet Pimpernel. As a lapsed subscriber I must say that several of this year’s stories do sound appealing.

AAAAAGH! It was bad enough when I couldn't afford "Shadow of the Daleks". Then yesterday I saw how much TLV I wouldn't be able to afford (and there's still more to be announced!). This morning I could't afford "Thin Time". Now I can't afford "Plight of the Pimpernel".

Hmm... The December release, The Grey Man of the Mountain, features Jon Culshaw as the Brigadier. Now I find the anti-recast inside vying with the completist in me (with the Main Range is concluding it seems a shame not to get every title). I think the fact it's written by Lisbeth Myles will sway me to get it - but I hope the mimicry doesn't distract too much from the drama! If it's any consolation, Culshaw's Brig is remarkable.

I can't say I'm fond of the recasts seeping into all the standard releases lately. I found Treloar and Culshaw terribly distracting in Legacy of Time.
On the other hand, Six and the Scarlet Pimpernel is a fantastic notion!

I am definitely looking forward to both of these. Looking at 2020 from a BF perspective... this might be considered heretical, but this year, there are more things I am really looking forward to than there were last year.
Which is just as well, because life outside of BF leaves some tiny little bits to be desired.

I wasn't too bothered by the recasts when they were confinded to ranges made for them, but seeing them appear in The Fourth Doctor Adventures and the Main Range is concerning. I dread the day when a recast is announced to appear in a storyline part way through its release and I have to choose between accepting the recast or abandoning the story.

Sounds like two perfect stories for Christmas imo.

If it's any consolation, Culshaw's Brig is remarkable. I'm a huge fan of Jon Culshaw, he's a brilliant mimic. I thought the way he was used in The Kingmaker was brilliant and very funny, largely because it was an inconsequential throwaway that made great comic milage from the fact that to all but the most casual listener he is clearly not Tom Baker. I'm sure I'm over sensitive to it, but I find that kind of imitation incredibly distracting in dramatic scenes. For example, during what in the script should have been a very poignant moment in The Sacrifice of Jo Grant... The upshot is that although I entirely see the appeal of these tribute acts for the fans of a particular character (or one interpretation of a character) who are so dedicated they prize new stories with them above all else, for me personally it just isn't something I find enjoyable, on balance.

Whoohoo! Says he, late to the MR news, but I love the descriptions of the December stories.
'The Big Grey Man' (Fear Dubh Mhor) of Ben Macdui is absolutely 'real' ie it's a real hillwalkers' myth ... or is it... They say he follows you when the mist is down, the sound of heavy footsteps in the snow always behind you... I've never been on Ben Macdui in mist or snow (purely for hill safety reasons of course, not because I believe in ghosties obviously... ) Excellent to see Jon Culshaw bringing his splendid tribute to the Brig. to the MR just in time!
And as for the other one, on a day when we already have a whole new set of Sixie goodness to enjoy...
We seek him here... We seek him there... We find Old Sixie everywhere! It's audio heaven - and who can tell - Perhaps he's Doctor Pimpernel?!
OK I lost my head a bit in enthusiasm there but it's great to see that even when the tumbrils of time are rolling and the MR has almost 'had its chips', it can still produce scenarios as enticing as these!
{Spoiler} (Bonus points for spotting the 'Carry On - Don't Lose Your Head' French Revolution references! )

Just to put it out there in case anyone was curious - in my head, 'Plight of the Pimpernel' is set in between S22 and S23, so that's where the Doctor and Peri's relationship is at! Post Tranquil Repose, pre- Ravalox!

I seem to have missed some news. Which release are you referring to? Thin Time/Madquake. It's not mentioned on the website cast listing (or elsewhere, officially) last I checked, but a certain impressionist appears.

But he has been known to get.... mixed reactions on this forum

Do we actually know for sure that The Lost Resort and Perils and Nightmares are going to be released as part of the Main Range? I kinda got the impression that they had to cobble together Shadow of the Daleks to replace them. Which becomes more apparent upon seeing that Plight of the Pimpernel and The Grey Man of the Mountain are back to being more conventional main range releases.

Perils and Nightmares are Dalek stories right? It would be very strange for the MR to have 3/4 Dalek stories in 6 months.

I've climbed Ben Macdui and there is indeed quite a lot of eeriness, a mix of beauty and lonliness. It's a lot easier to climb than the likes of Ben Nevis (even Queen Victoria managed it). Lots of locals when we were there did go on about "Am Fear Liath Mòr " to give The Grey Man his correct name. Lizbeth is very, very into her Scots folklore as anyone who listens to her Hammer podcast with Paul Cornell will know. So it's going to be a passion project for sure.
