I love the character of Adric, and his perspective of the season 19 TARDIS crew tempered by Big Finish characterisation should make for a great story. Plus I'm a sucker for fantasy oriented stories, so Adric, the last person you'd expect to get caught up in one (Tegan is surprised to find him reading fiction in Zaltys), being in one will be amazing.

Recorded on the same day as A Full Life according to Ian Atkinson in the podcast. Matthew's storytelling talent was rightly praised. His take on a greasy spoon waitress is still a highlight for me.

I've got the sub for the 2017 Short Trips, so it'll fall into my download folder anyway. Big Finish are doing a marvelous job of fleshing Adric out as a character.

Bonus feature also available for download now: Music Suite by Rob Harvey (17m 45s) He's on DU as Robert-T and also created the excellent music and sound design for the First Doctor CCs Vol 2, much praised on here recently, and for many other BF titles. (EDIT: Including that for ST A Full Life, as noted by omega below.)

Didn't know that, I'm listening on the app. Looking forward to listening to the music suite, it's feeling very Princess Bride to me. Rob also did the music on A Full Life, which also includes the music suite as a bonus feature.

I marked it a 4 but I actually give it a 4.5 a very good take on fantasy and wonder and hero worship.

Oh, that was really beautiful in so many ways, with great surprises and fabulous music that set a perfect tone.
It's hard to review this without spoilers, but basically, it's now impossible to decide which Short Trip is my favorite this year.

A really nice small scale story. Adric's really done well by Big Finish.

By the way, the music, available as a free download when you buy the short trip, is well worth it. It's a beautiful score and makes good background for when you're writing :-)

I marked it a 4 but I actually give it a 4.5 a very good take on fantasy and wonder and hero worship. The only reason I didn't give this a 5 is how highly I think of A Full Life. Technically I think The Ingenious Gentleman... deserves a 5 and A Full Life deserves a 5.5 on a scale of 5, so I may well change my vote any minute to add another point. I think this does live up remarkably well to such a very tough act to follow, and both feature Matthew giving a superb reading of very moving stories that really feel like they needed to be written.

I loved this!! I can’t quite pick if I prefer this or ‘A Full Life’, not something I expected to say about Adric short trips. Matthew Waterhouse performs this beautifully, I hope he does more
