I'm so old I remember bulletin boards, before the Internet ... and even before that . I'm so old I remember club bulletin boards were where you pinned up a real paper bulletin with a real pin. (This is getting 'Four Yorkshiremen' isn't it? 'I remember carving 'Doctor Who' updates on stone tablets and standing them in circles!') Pah! Marks on standing stone! You young'uns don't know your born. I remember telling Doctor Who stories with variations of "Ug" noises.

I remember telling Doctor Who stories with variations of "Ug" noises. I saw that one: The Tribe of Ug Gum... (As I recall, according to 'An Adventure in Space and Time' the question was asked: 'Cavemen?! What are they going to do, sit around saying "Ug!" ?')

A bit before my time. But knowing they exist, still weird to think they've been phased out. I wonder what happened to them? Well if my experience of them is anything to go by, they 1) Contained lots of dead links 2) Often contained links to sites of poor quality 3) Search engines provide better routes to finding relevant content Yeah, the development of the hyperlink likely saw a definitive end to them. Why take the long road in a sleeper ship when you have transmat? We're trapped in a chronic hysteresis! Ah, interesting to find out that people have always hated exclusive accounts to log into things, whether it be Yahoo or Google. I remember people the transition from dial-up to broadband, so I think it might've been just after the new millennium (that's circa 2000 for any far future archaeologists). Young enough to have GoldenEye be one of my first films, but not old enough to have an AOL account. They might've been disappearing just as we arrived, rran . Ah.. memories !! When you mentioned first films.. I remember one of my first movies was I think Empire Strikes back. And I wasn't even born when the SW Original trilogy came out. Such a good film, probably the best of the original trilogy. Irvin Kershner's direction is glorious. I don't recall any other films from that time (loads of video games though), but I definitely remember that my childhood was basically saturated with TV science fiction -- Andromeda, Blake's 7, Farscape, Stargate, Star Trek, Thunderbirds, Babylon 5, New Captain Scarlet, basically anything you could shake a stick at. Young whippersnappers ... get off my lawn Cheers Tony It's the only lawn left in the megacity, we gotta go somewhere.

What I would give for a framerate ... then I could get rid of that annoying Mime who keeps following me around ... Cheers Tony

You’ve brought back more memories now 😊 I grew up in a social circle where other girls my age read chick-lit like Mills n boon and similar stuff while I never could fathom their fascination with them.I was more into crime medical thrillers like Robin cook.Even recently while watching a random episode of criminal minds someone commented - “Do girls really watch this stuff ?” They watched soaps while I watched crime and science fiction.Couple of years back for a womens day out we had a huge argument - what to watch - Twilight or Iron man ? I love Marvel movies so lost the fight unfortunately as I was in the minority 😒 Similarly no company for Doctor Who. Occasionally my sis agrees to watch with me but that’s just it. Sorry for such a long post.. went somewhat off track.

Sorry for such a long post.. went somewhat off track. Oh, I can definitely relate. through a quirk of fate, I ended up being unintentionally, erm, trendy. Everyone else was watching The Simpsons, so any conversation towards Doctor Who was pretty much beside the point. Once it took off with the Tenth Doctor and I was able to tell a sonic screwdriver at thirty paces, suddenly there was a bucketload of questions I'd get anytime I opened my mouth about the show. I have a sneaking suspicion that more often than not, it's just a question of timing when introducing people to new genres: Mind you, one of my favourite films is The Princess Bride which could easily be considered a "chick film". The Philadelphia Story is another one that definitely is. I've never understood partitioning off films by gender, you miss out on so many good things from the genres you don't watch. Girls do watch (and thoroughly enjoy) Aliens and men do watch (and thoroughly enjoy) Love Actually. I think they should widen their perspectives a little, they'd probably get a kick out of Bones or Castle.

I got the completely opposite effect - the show started to become more well known, but because I'd watched it before it was cool, I still wasn't cool, even if the show was. (I must admit, I still struggle to find any rational reasoning behind that one to this day) Bold point 2: Oh, absolutely. It's a great movie!

I enjoyed reading this conversation from the New Series Era! We fans had it a lot easier back in the 1970s and the days of limited TV choice. You could watch the BBC, or you could watch 'the other side'. And if you were posh or had the latest rental TV (TVs were expensive items) you could watch BBC2 but that was so technologically advanced I didn't see it for years except at friends' houses. So people watched 'Doctor Who' not necessarily because it or they were 'cool' but because it was on and better than 'the other side', meaning that in my schooldays half of the boys and many girls (a minority, but quite a few and including some real fans*) would be back on Monday morning up to date with the Doctor's latest exploits. We weren't cool, it was just what people our age watched, with their familiies, on the only TV in the house if tuned to BBC1: Grandstand (the afternoon sports programme), the Football Results, Doctor Who, the News, The Generation Game, the Saturday Film... Regularly pushing or topping 10 million viewers a week meant that one might walk into school one Monday morning during 'Planet of the Spiders' and find a bunch of one's classmates sitting in a circle on the floor chanting 'Om, mane, padme, hum....' with no explanation required! (Fortunately it didn't work, no eight-legs showed up!) * I'll never forget the appalled tones in which one of those girls, years later and a Fifth Doctor fan, told me she had heard a rumour that Bayban the Butcher was going to be the Doctor! (And of course her source was right! Blake's 7 reference, Google if required!)

Quite late, but here to say congrats to the forum. It is genuinely one of the best places on the internet and even though I don't post often I am often here anyway enjoying your company. Here's to the next two years!

It's been a fun two years - highlights for me include Paul Morris' massively detailed review of the Christmas Special that he didn't actually watch and, more seriously, the Bloodlust listenthru which was tremendous fun.

Two years already? Feels like yesterday when The Last Adventure was being released and the old forum being deemed NO MORE.
