DOCTOR WHO - MAIN RANGE » 234. KINGDOM OF LIESReleased January 2017SynopsisOn the planet Cicero Prime, the kingdom of Cardenas is divided, with the whole population forced to swear allegiance to either the effete Duke or the fiery, hard-edged Duchess. This is a situation both parties have grown tired of. What use is half a kingdom when, thanks to a carefully engineered murder, you could have it all? Surely, neither of them would be rash enough to summon the deadly off-world assassin The Scorpion to help with their problem? And surely, this terrifying figure wouldn’t arrive wearing a long cream coat and striped trousers…? Written By: Robert Khan and Tom Salinsky Directed By: Barnaby Edwards CASTPeter Davison (The Doctor), Janet Fielding (Tegan Jovanka), Sarah Sutton (Nyssa), Matthew Waterhouse (Adric), Jonathan Firth (Sebastian, Duke of Cardenas), Charlotte Lucas (Duchess Miranda), Harriet Thorpe (Amelia), Tim Bentinck (Lord Crozion), Richenda Carey (Lady Crozion), Piotr Hatherer (Tomek), Patsy Kensit (Mercenary), Harry Smith (Additional Voices). Other parts played by members of the cast.

The writers did a smashing political intrigue with The Ravelli Conspiracy, and this combination of Doctor and companions should be a compelling set of characters in this setting. From Tegan's more direct way of handling things to Adric's pomposity and Nyssa's naivety, I can't wait.

I've really been looking forward to this one. Of all the things to be mistaken for. I really hope it isn't going to be played for laughs, it's such a good premise.

The mistaken for assassin thing has been done before, in Kingdom of Silver, but there it was a way to facilitate the Doctor meeting up with another character and get captured. As Seven said, "a good lie has about ten or so minutes in it." Here it's the main plot, so I'm also hoping for plenty of mileage out of it.

Probably the most transparent of all incarnations so far. BF's swing at Season 19 is coming along really nicely, particularly given that season's distinctive shift from Boys' Own to grim pathos.

*Rubs hands in anticipation of a great trilogy* I really hope this one is played, not actually for laughs, but for humour. "'The Ravelli Conspiracy' goes alien in the MR" is what I'm hoping for and the synopsis sounds very promising... (And another excellent MR cover and aren't they all?)

I really hope they retain this format for the MR. It's fun to anticipate what's coming each month.

I'm happy I extended my sub I'd also got my sub in place before this trilogy was announced and oh my goodness did it look smugly at me when I saw the stories to come... Comedy assassins, Gothic ghosts and 'monsters', and political skullduggery alien mafia style, great writers and script edited by Guy Adams.

I had to because I was missing the last part of the trilogy. My previous sub was one release short. The only problem is I dunno when I'll catch up with my backlog.

This story seems to have an unusually big cast list - a total of 12 credited actors, when 8 or 9 is more typical for a main range story.

This appears to be (another) one of those breathless Big Finish casting announcements where those of us outside the UK respond with “who?” As long as she’s good in the role, I’m happy!
