I see BF has sneakily announced a dramatisation of Dracula starring Mark Gatiss. It's out May 2016. I think they've messed up the price though, according to the news article it will cost £20 on CD and £15 on Download but if you go to pre order it's £14.99 on CD and £12.99 on download. Cheers Tony www.bigfinish.com/news/v/dracula---starring-mark-gatiss

Also, I've never known them to do that before. Generally a preorder is discounted enough, but what do I know . It could be a mistake and someone will get a great deal before they realise and change the price, or the news article is wrong and the preorder price is correct. If any BF staff were on here we could tell them Cheers Tony

Might be a good place to plug last year's free Dorian Christmas story, Frostbite...

Some reason I'm just not sure of Mark Gatiss as Dracula. Maybe because I have him as Mycroft in my head and I just can't see it.
I'll have to wait for trailers on this one.
Edit: Okay I just saw there is a trailer and it did sound suitably creepy (especially Briggs voice at the end ha ha). I actually am leaning towards getting it because I love the novel but I am still going to wait a bit.

At first I thought Gatiss was an odd choice but changed my mind after having a quick think and especially after listening to the trailer. I'm glad it's coming but that said, I really was hoping for Big Finish to tackle Kim Newman's Anno Dracula series. That would be spectacular on audio.

I know this is kind of weird but I kind of wish they waited and released it October 2016 instead because it's perfect for that time of year.

It's such a hard story to adapt faithfully with the journals and letters forming much of the text. One good stab was the Mercury Theatre one but that picked a small part of the story.
I hope we get the scenes that most versions omit like the fate of the boat that carries the Count over the seas..

I agree with the quality of the Mercury Theatre adaptation. Given that their version is only an hour in length they made a very smart choice about how to deal with the story.
I've been hoping Big Finish would tackle Dracula so I'm delighted to be pre-ordering this today. I'm also hopeful that it might turn into an ongoing series as they've done with Dorian Grey. I see a lot of possibilities there, such as a series that follows Van Helsing around the world as he hunts the supernatural. And of course, Dracula is infamous for never staying staked for too long.

I could totally see Mark Gatiss doing Dracula. Without having listened to the trailer.

I could totally see Mark Gatiss doing Dracula. Without having listened to the trailer. I think that the most impressive thing about this is the way he has taken the part on, which keeps it true to the book, the comment made in the extra's and also by others in the past. The Big Finish treatment of this, sets a new standard for their classic range, I for one thoroughly enjoyed this, and it is one of those drama's due to the story content and length that I could foresee you going back to listen to again and again. {Spoiler} It is the mark of a good Dracula is the ability for the character not to be overly present, but always feels as though he is involved in the action
