Possibly two of the biggest heavyweights in Classic Who, Dalek and non-Dalek stories alike, but which one is, you think, the better work? The First Doctor's roughest and biggest TV adventure, or the Fourth Doctor's, if not the 70s, most critically acclaimed and recognized serial?

They are two utterly different kettles of fish. One is a chase story, another a character drama. One is about Daleks with allies declaring war on Earth/the Solar System/the galaxy/the universe (honestly they can’t decide) and the other is about Davros realising he’s surrounded by idiots.

I love my Dalek stories! I think Genesis of the Daleks is marginally the better story, but they are both brilliant examples of Doctor Who adventures from their respective eras. They are probably both a bit too long but that's the way TV was in those days. It doesn't spoil the enjoyment of those stories as the quality of them shines through even with the padding. The Daleks's Masterplan is a classic Doctor Who story with epic scope and some run-around humour thrown in for good measure. Of course, The Daleks Masterplan is only available complete on audio, so we can't see all of the story in it's glory, but what bits we do get though are very iconic. A First Doctor heavy weight story for sure.
Genesis of the Daleks is a highlight of the Fourth Doctor's era, not as overlong as The Daleks's Masterplan but I think it would have made a better four part story with some tightening up. There are some great Doctor Who moments in this story though, the "have I the right" speech is still mentioned to this day, plus of course Genesis of the Daleks introduced Davros in to the Doctor Who universe as the creator of the Daleks with Michael Wisher's classic portrayal. (Still the definitive TV Davros for me.)
Both of these Dalek stories are top notch Doctor Who stories where the plusses outweigh the minuses. Which is the better work? Well, if it was a Heavy-Weight boxing contest between the two, for me Genesis of the Daleks would win on points.

I'm of the school of thought that Davros actually brings Depth to the Daleks (there's a story title for you), the absolute conviction of designing the superior race and that your to lead it and that despite how it turned out you'd do it again, plus Tom Baker, Elizabeth Sladen, Michael Wisher and Peter Miles all give outstanding performances, and Maloney's direction might be in the Top 5 ever.

Very very different stories, other than a Doctor and some Daleks. Even the Doctor behaves entirely differently and there isn't even a TARDIS in one of them! But I think if you take the best parts of both you get a lot of stuff that makes good Doctor Who.
Although, Master Plan is more like a good season:
- An arc spanning multiple locations that allows for stand alone stories in the middle. - A companion with a clear and planned ending (No-one would say Sara overstayed her welcome!) - An urgency that moves the serial along right from the start (broken only by Feast of Steven). - A whole world of side stories that we never see (all of those weird council members!)
...and Genesis is more like a good episode:
- Moral and philosophical questions. - The Doctor doesn't have an easy solution. - Compelling villain.
Oh one other thing they have in common: both villains die trusting the Daleks. But so many do, don't they?

Genesis is definitely better. Masterplan has some great moments, and I love Mavic Chen, Guardian of the Solar System. I feel like there is just too much filler though. As cool as the Monk is, his episodes were a waste of time. The Christmas episode was also pretty pointless. There were just too many diversions away from the main plot.
