You do realise that the singer appearing on The Graham Norton Show is there to sing a song, right? There's music every episode. So the one spot Capaldi couldn't take over is Tom Chaplin's. Well, that or Graham's. I'd argue Capaldi could be a musical guest but I don't think he'd be promoting the special by doing that (unless he and Bradders duet during their regenerations, I suppose). Also, who's to say they don't have someone from the special? Jenna's there, isn't she? Who knows...

Since when is The Graham Norton Show the be-all and end-all for publicity? Absolutely. Considering his history with the show, I'm surprised anybody's keane keen to associate the two even further.... I'm not even convinced of the necessity to advertise the Christmas special on a chat show anyway - although, granted, there aren't really any alternative options if it is considered necessary.

I just told you who Keane are, lad. I guess the baker's dozen of platinum albums doesn't make them well known though eh? Because the true barometer of success is whether one entitled kid thinks you're qualified to appear on Graham Norton or not...... Hopes and Fears alone has sold substantially more copies, both UK and worldwide, than all 4 of Little Mix's studio albums combined.

Hadn't realised The Graham Norton Show was still going. Though don't really see this episode needing much more publicity beon Children in Need clip and few ads on bbc. As it's the first chance to get a glimpse of female doctor.

They're apparently quite popular, I'll give you that. Just evidently not as popular as the band with the 9th biggest selling album of this century.

No, Keane really are ranked ninth in best selling albums of the decade following 2000: en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_best-selling_albums_of_the_2000s_(decade)_in_the_United_KingdomThey are a big band, I've never heard of them before today (I don't particularly follow music, didn't even know Little Mix were formed on the X Factor till today either) but clearly they're a big deal. Don't see why they shouldn't be big enough for The Graham Norton Show. I don't see what the big deal is here. So no-one from Who is on Graham Norton? Don't see how you extrapolate the publicity as an 'omnishambles' from that.

Because The Graham Norton Show is the most popular chat show currently on TV and it would be pretty easy for the BBC to get somebody from Twice Upon A Time to appear. Also the fact that it is Peter Capaldi's regeneration story, and I believe regeneration stories should be plugged non-stop in terms of the publicity.

The BBC (or whoever is in charge of such matters, I won't even pretend to know ) have clearly chosen not to use the Graham Norton show this way. So what? Deal with it. There are other ways in which this special is being publicised.

I'm sorry, but I read this and am left thinking "Move along now, nothing to see here". Clearly somebody has deployed the device from 'The New Counter-Measures 1.1'... Or, an item which was never scheduled to appear isn't going to appear on a chat-show I've never watched. In other news, there will be a 'Doctor Who' Christmas Special which by now is as expected a part of a British Christmas Day as turkey, holly, the Queen's Message and inadequate snowfall. It will no doubt be trailed to regenerating point for days in advance, preceded by swirly tinsely graphics and jingly bell music. I think people will know Something Is Up. (And if they don't know he's regenerating by now, they probably don't have a TV anyway.)

Um, let me think.... Yes. I'm very sure I'm thinking of the band I'm thinking of, and not a substantially very different musical group.

Why are you denying the literal numbers that are right there? There's no shame in admitting you're wrong.

I thought this thread would be about all the early showings that'll cause the entire thing to leak online (at minimum we'll have the whole plot out there), which IS an omnishambles. But no, it's just complaining about it ot being plugged on one specific chat show. Hardly an omnishambles there. Not even a regular shambles, really.

That's the main thing I'm taking away from this thread, also a surprisingly comprehensive discussion of British musicians I've not heard of before.
