The block is really ineffective because you still see that person quoted in other people’s responses. Believe, nothing would make me happier than not to be exposed to so much abrasive and condescending negativity. Especially in the place I think of as my internet home but there you have it. Fair enough as well, however I do stand by that if people just didn't react to things like this and bait each other, there wouldn't be a problem. Everyone should be able to say what they think and just because others don't agree, it doesn't mean we should argue etc. As a group we disagree with each other a lot, yet 99.9% of the time we get along with each other just fine. So when someone does come along who is always negative, abrasive and not really interested in discussing anything with anyone, well, that sticks out. And I reenact the way I do because I appreciate the safe haven this place is and I don’t like seeing everyone’s basic politeness and civility taken advantage of and turned against us. If I’m wrong about feeling that way, I’m sorry.

Then ignore him. You don't like what he's posting so you're going out of your way to annoy him further? I don't get it. And again, I don't disagree with you but in a small community, that is easier said then done. It's very easy. You are not obligated to respond to every last thing you disagree with. And the situation is actually made worse by the constant arguing back and forth than if you just scrolled past without responding. If you know what someone's opinion is and you know it's not going to change, just don't respond to it. Period. And though I quoted Audio Watchdog, this is not aimed at him specifically but at everyone on this forum who indulges in that behavior.

It's funny how things change, and yet how much remains the same. I was just googling, after Josh mentioned David Dixon from Hitchhiker's being Doctor-ish to see if he'd ever been linked with the part even back in the day....and I found this from 1998 - the Beeb's fan feedback page when it was first mooted that Doctor Who would come back for the year 2000 (well, we know it didn't but hey) and that women were being considered. There's two takeaways from it - the gender debate was as hotly debated 20 years ago and, most wonderfully, look how many are in favour of McGann! You never get a bunch of posts this united these days. news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/98601.stm

Oh, nothing fake about it - Nation's estate were playing incredibly hardball at the time. I think it was Lorraine Heggesey or Julie Gardner who eventually had to say to them "We're gonna be a success without you - do you want in on selling millions of merchandise or are you happy licencing Terry's work to Kit-Kat adverts?" which seemed to get through to them! It's detailed on one of the Doctor Who Forever DVD special features. They were odd ducks through the wilderness years too, with Nation refusing the rights to use the Daleks in the books until just before his death, and even then only on the condition John Peel write them hence why we only got 2 Dalek books in 20 years.

I liked him in McVicar and Buddy's Song...but I can't imagine him as The Doctor. What about that "David Bowie play the Doctor with Sting as the Master".....why where fans going nuts for musicians in the show?

...what? How have I never heard about this until now?? I love that. I need that show. I like him saying ""We want to protect the integrity of the brand" - this is the same estate that licenced "the brand" to advertise Kitkats and Duracell batteries in this same time period when they couldn't make anyting off DW.

Hello again.
Oh dearie me. What a pickle🥒. As far as I am concerned no matter what the subject of the debate in fandom everyone has a right to their opinion. However, having an opinion does not give anyone the automatic right to be rude or offensive. This seems to have completely passed by some Twitter users.
Those fans who do not wish to watch the series when Jodie Whittaker takes over have every right to state this fact without venemous bile heaped upon them.
Those fans who are enthusiastic, undecided or Intrigued by this new twist in the Dr. Who story should be allowed to enjoy it without being verbally attacked or insulted.
I have great respect for Timelord007's comments recently. He feels like an analogue signal in a digital age. He is not keen on watching Dr Who with a female lead. It's not for him. This is his personal preference about a TV programme and not a reflection on his personal beliefs.
People on forums are far too ready to heap unnecessary hate and spite on those whose views they disagree with. It would be great shame if such intolerance was to infect this site.
Debate not hate. Politeness not rudeness. Only if a point of view is absolutely abhorrent is a stronger, more robust response required. Take care all of you, sorry for rant, off to listen to Wirrrrrrnnnn Dawn.
