Love the Norse myths and I'll be keeping an eye on the rest of the sale now I know it's on - though for me this offer will be hard to top. (Signed up for their deal emails now!)

If Audible were as clever at marketing as Big Finish, that release would be promoted as their Thorsday Special, so they missed a trick there!

I couldn't believe it when the email came through, because I'd just got it using my last remaining credit only two days ago! Of course, one great thing about Audible (there has to be one ), is that I was able to return the one I bought and have my credit refunded. Ok, so now I've had to spend a bit more with Audible by buying it again today (confusing or what) and using my refunded credit I bought Mythos by Stephen Fry, which is the early Greek Myths. In the words of a certain Northerner ... Fantastic! Cheers Tony

Day 2 is Treasure Island with Catherine Tate (and others): Not bad for £0.99 Cheers Tony Another 99p well spent - great cast and a timeless classic. It'll be interesting to compare this much longer production with the excellent BF version. And adapted by Marty Ross (MR 141 'Lurkers at Sunlight's Edge' and the fabulous CC 'Night's Black Agents')

And adapted by Marty Ross (MR 141 'Lurkers at Sunlight's Edge' and the fabulous CC 'Night's Black Agents') I've listened to both this and the Big Finish version, for me the BF release is much better. The Audible adaptation includes unnecessary scenes which slows the pace of the story, Philip Glenister would have been better cast as Long John Silver, and there's an annoying parrot which can talk rather than just mimic. I paint a bad picture of it, and I promise you it's still enjoyable. For 99p its a massive bargain! And Daniel Mays as Ben Gunn is marvellous.

From the short section I've listened to, I think this adaptation cleverly converts quite a bit of the narrative prose into extra dialogue, which would account for the length? Maybe 'Captain Flint' (the newly chatty parrot) gets some of the new dialogue! And it's not many Pieces of Eight is it?!

Have to agree that the BF version is much better.......although both are enjoyable and both have their faults. the audible version is very narrative heavy with less than impressive soundscapes. But on the upside this tells the treasure island part of the tale more successfully than the BF version. The extra length adds little to the tale, while the slight changes neither benefited or detracted. on the whole it’s a nice little production but more 4extra than big finish in production but it’s a steal at .99p

A very nice Christmas gift from Audible - and spot the familiar names involved, BF fans.
Ghostly Tales: An Audible Christmas Gift
Free audiobook for Audible members, four classic ghost stories adapted within a framing story by Joseph Lidster. 'Between the Lights' (E.F. Benson) 'A Strange Christmas Game' (J.H. Riddell) 'Was It an Illusion' (Emelia B. Edwards) 'The Signalman' (Charles Dickens) Narrated by Simon Callow, Sally Phillips, John Banks, Dan Starkey. They could have included an M.R.James (HE is known as The Master when it comes to ghost stories and with good reason!) but really no complaints from this fan of the genre!

Day 7:
So, Anyway...: The Autobiography
John Cleese
If you only care about Monty Python and Fatty Owls er, you won't find them in here (much). But that's the part we already knew about, isn't it?

For me this free Audible gift improved during the second listen. At first I couldn't work out why Simon was being Simon Vance, but Sally Phillips was an Audible Producer. Was waiting for something to occur during each story. Once I learnt there was a twist at the end, an odd twist at that, I enjoyed the stories much more. I'm still not a huge fan of these kinds of old-style ghost story, but big praise should be given to all four actors, their performances were fantastic - especially Simon Vance.
