Very bad news for the film industry. It's never a good idea to have one voice in entertainment dominating over others, as it means there's little-to-no competition. Nobody can compete against Disney now, so they haven't really got anyone to push them.
The only good thing to come from this is that all the Marvel characters are now under Marvel Studios. There was doubt about the Fantastic Four, but the press release confirms that Disney have bought the production rights from Constantin Films so there will definitely be an MCU Fantastic Four now. James Gunn confirmed as such on Twitter too. There is literally no limits for Marvel crossovers anymore.

Part of me is a bit sad about this as I've liked the Fox/X-Men films as a counter point to the Disney/Marvel model. Films like Logan and Deadpool have been more to my taste. I'm not assuming that Disney won't do films like those under the Fox banner, but rather just saying I hope bold explorations of the genre such as those don't go away.

Oh dear, now be prepared for even more superhero films! Since Fox were making a ton of them anyway....won't it be the same number just with a different distributor? Not like there hasn't been a million and one X-Men movies and spinoffs on film and TV the past 2 decades.

You can't just have a new Superhero movie from Disney every month since they need 2-3 months to take in the revenue at the box-office, especially with international markets that take longer to come in. So, sure, we'll get crossovers....but those will be instead of what was going to happen without the buyout, not in addition to. There's only so many places to fit these without reducing revenue.

Crossovers won't be separate movies either, they'll be in solo and Avengers films. You won't get a Deadpool/Spider-Man movie in addition to a Spider-Man and Deadpool film for example, you'd just get one of their solo movies being the crossover.

Can we at least hope this means the Fantastic Four will finally be back in the comics as a team again?

Now give me an honest to goodness Fantastic Four movie. Please. And one has to wonder when Hugh Jackman's Wolverine will meet The Avengers. Or the Silver Surfer meets The Guardians of the Galaxy. Or Victor von Freaking Doom hits the MCU. Happy, happy day. And this deal was all about Disney and content for their future streaming service(s).

And one has to wonder when Hugh Jackman's Wolverine will meet The Avengers. He's been asked about it all week promoting The Greatest Showman movie. His line is that no matter what, he's out - and he's first in line to see the recast Wolverine. Pre-Logan he was for it, but he just had the perfect epilogue with that movie. Could change his mind, I guess, but Logan is the perfect sign-off.

I just know he has been quoted a couple of times in the past as saying he would come back for a Avengers movie. His stance could have easily changed. Anyway, some more details, and commentary on the deal right here.

He was able to be hypothetical in the past, in the present, he seems quite sure that he's out. X-Continuity is so all over the place on screen that it may as well be all "What If?", I think the film itself was a goodbye literally and figuratively to Jackman's Wolverine. Would almost seem a letdown seeing him back for more after that. It was quite the mic drop.

Can we at least hope this means the Fantastic Four will finally be back in the comics as a team again? There's absolutely no way they won't be back in the comics now. In fact, I suspect they've known for a while that Marvel Studios may get the Fantastic Four back. There's an upcoming story teasing their comic return called 'The Fate of the Four' in Marvel Two-In-One, featuring Johnny Storm and Ben Grimm. That story will probably directly lead into the FF being back.

It was reported that Comcast only dropped out of talks in the past week to 10 days or so. It was always Marvel's plan to drop FF for a year or so as to not help the Fox movie of the same name, so if plans are already in motion to return Marvel's 1st family to the comics, I seriously doubt the Fox deal had anything to do with it.
