I'll admit I'm not the biggest fan of season 17, one of Tom's weakest seasons in my opinion, if not the weakest. But given I do not own a copy of the animated version of Shada, I'm glad to see it will be included. This and a Blu-Ray version of City of Death will make me preorder the box set.

BIG respect to Mr McTighe for getting David Gooderson as Davros back. Would have been so easy to get Terry Molloy as he's now the classic Davros given all his work, but that extra touch of getting David was just lovely. It's more exciting to hear David back in the role than actually having Davros in the trailer itself, for me.
And that art! The booklet cover and the velcro flap art look stunning - maybe even better than the cover. Along with the disc art which all looks fab. This is why even a lot of US/CA fans import. Quality product from top to bottom.

Quality product from top to bottom. This is the only flaw of buying the standard release versions is that they're great for saving space but you lose the velcro flap art, which is a shame because it's always really amazing work by Lee Binding. I haven't seen much of S17 yet (only Destiny and Shada) but the Collections are always an easy buy for me. Looking forward to finally seeing City of Death!

Already pre-ordered. Now I have a challenge to combine both my reviews on the 1992 and 2017 versions of 'Shada' into one review for the Season 17 Blu-ray box set. Hopefully I'll work it out when I get around to it. Tim

Toby Hadoke has confirmed he joined Tom on the commentaries and it's for 2 eps each of Destiny and City.

I wouldn't want to lose the full booklet either, cutting it down to more of a fancy contests pamplet. Again, the Region A ones don't even get that. Unless you know what disc a specific extra is on...it'd be trial and error.

Yes, that's true. I always like to keep things in one place rather than have multiple reviews of the same thing, but I'll decide on what to do when it comes to December...or January if I know the delays to these Blu-ray box sets.

I think this will be the 5th time buying Shada if you include the BF version.

Tim If there is a delay, probably better be till January - if it comes out on the 20th...who wants their order lost in Christmas post?

Yes City of Death is the only good story in season 17. It is easily my least favorite 4th Doctor series but still an instant preorder. The extras alone make it worth it. It's not a classic but am I alone in preferring S17 to S15 where the only one I really love is Fang Rock? I like Sun Makers a fair bit. Invasion has some OK ideas. In this one, I love City, like Destiny and - COME AT ME - I like....HORNS OF NIMON. I unironically enjoy it every time. Tom can't be arsed trying in it so Lalla gets to do all the heavy lifting and Graham Crowden as Soldeed says "Well, if Tom isn't going to be entertaining this week....watch THIS..." and goes full fettle. I love his performance. He's arch, he's camp, he's OTT and HE'S HAVING A BALL. If you take it out you're left with nothing memorable about the ep at all. Irks me that you get Who fans who say he can't act...clearly never seen ANY of his other work like A Very Peculiar Practice with Peter Davison. There's a reason he was on Barry's shortlist for the Fourth Doctor in the first place.

Now here's a thing...
Disc 6 is Shada and Disc 7 is marked as "Shada And Bonus Material". It does say the 1992 version will be there. But the Shada steelbook contained 3 discs. The steelbook contained the flash animation McGann shada (it's only appearance on disc). So that adds fuel to the fire that they're absolutely doing a wilderness years set along with the TV Movie and placing it there. Some of the other bonus material for Shada 2017:
Taken Out of Time (25′ 39″) Now and Then (12′ 45″) Strike, Strike, Strike! (27′ 50″) Studio Sessions – 1979 (44′ 38″) Dialogue Sessions (14′ 16″) Model Filming (04′ 36″) Deleted Scenes (01′ 22″) Title Sequence Films (TBC) Live Action Reference Footage (02′ 48″) 1979 Gallery (04′ 50″) 2017 Gallery (02′ 52)
6 animated eps, all that, the 1992 version AND "bonus material"? I think there's going to be some stuff here dropped and moved to other sets. Otherwise the bonus disc would be all Shada and there'd be no need to add the "bonus material" wording..at the very least, the McGann one will move.
