If that turns out to be true, I am ridiculously happy. That's a great collection of stories.

The 1st Doctor set still hasn't been released officially in Australia yet! It's actually this week.. That reminds me I need to pre order it today!

Admittedly, wouldn’t be my pick for the next one, but at least it’ll stop all the speculation over it being the next one after every set. 😂

Intrigued by this a season where every story could use a little extra TLC IMO and along with Season 7 the colour Season that's apparently taken the most work to get as close to the original as transmitted Edit versions for.

I'm happy about this because this was really the first series I ever remember watching, with Curse of Peladon and The Sea Devils in particular having an effect on me.

I was hoping we might finally see another Davison season next (it's been too long since the last one!), but I'll still be very happy if Season 9 is next! Of the 26 episodes, only 11 episodes exist in their original colour. After seeing the incredible work done on Season 8 for its colour-recovered material, I'm eager to see what they're going to do for this season. As I understand it (I'm not completely certain), they did ground-up restorations for Terror of the Autons and Colony in Space for S8 and The Dalek Invasion of Earth and The Time Meddler for S2, so assuming a general average of 10 episodes getting ground-up restorations per set (where such extensive restoration is required), I'm hoping to see all of The Curse of Peladon and The Time Monster done from scratch. The first three episodes of The Sea Devils look pretty good to me, as do the first two episodes of The Mutants, and with all of Day of the Daleks existing in its original form I think Peladon and Monster are the best choices for full reworks. Peladon's always looked quite soft on the DVD release. As I understand it (again, I'm not 100% certain), for the Colony in Space redo they combined the colour signal of the RSC print with a higher quality black and white print, creating a much better overall picture. That sounds like the perfect way of upgrading the look of Peladon. The Time Monster would benefit the same way as those episodes have always looked a bit soft too (EDIT: Fact check - Time Monster 6 has basically undergone this treatment already, but there's still the probable benefit of 10+ years of restoration tech developed since that could work in its favour!). (Of course, this technique would work on every colour-recovered episode from this season, but like I say I think the Sea Devils and Mutants episodes look pretty good already). Sorry if that got a bit technical. I've got a bit of a soft spot for Who restoration, so I can get a bit enthusiastic about this stuff

I've just found the Aus rating for the Season 2 set online - M, for Science Fiction Themes and Violence. As far as I can tell, this is equivalent to "12" in the UK and "PG-13" in the US. This is really weird though, because none of the individual serials received an M rating when they were released on DVD (only three classic Doctor Who DVDs got an M - The Ambassadors of Death, Attack of the Cybermen, and The Movie). It was always a kind of special occasion for me growing up when we were allowed to watch something rated M (my mum was quite strict about what was "suitable for children"), so to think that what had previously gone under PG or even G is now considered to be M-worthy material is a bit strange. Some of the other Blu-ray sets have had M ratings, but they're for different reasons: Season 17 - Coarse Language. This is from swearing in the special features. Season 19 - Coarse Language. "" "" Season 22 - Science Fiction Themes and Violence. In line with the DVD release of Attack of the Cybermen. Season 24 - Coarse Language. For the above reason. Season 26 - Coarse Language. "" "" The individual releases for the Season 2 stories contain the following warnings on the PG-rated releases (including the Lost in Time set): Mild Violence, Low Level Violence, Mild Science Fiction Violence, Mild Science Fiction Themes. Short of The Crusade having a recon vs just the audio on Lost in Time (so there's actually some form of visual as opposed to just sound), I've really no idea why they've bumped the rating up for this season as a whole. Have the classification board really become that soft? I mean, they did rate The Two Doctors as a G release back in the day, despite characters constantly discussing eating one another, as well as showing off the the severed leg of an exploded Sontaran that had slowly been dying from being gassed with acid... I might be alone in noticing or caring about this, but I thought it was an interesting observation nonetheless Just a small update for those that care - while all of the online listings for Season 2 present the box with an M rating (even right this second!), the actual product (which I have in front of me) is only rated PG! I'm assuming they changed their minds between commissioning the online artwork and the physical box? Something similar happened back in 2010 with The Waters of Mars. If you look in the BBC catalogues that come with some of the DVDs around that time, TWoM cover has an M rating on it, but it's only ever been PG whenever I've seen it available on the shelf (that's the independent release and the Complete Specials box set). So I guess there is a precedent for this sort of thing, but it's pretty rare!

Amazon leaked the art for Season 9, the next classic Who set. 8 discs with 2 discs apiece for Day of The Daleks, Sea Devils, and Time Monster. I'm hoping for an edit of The Mutants...maybe cutting out 5 of the 6 eps!

I think a double disc for The Time Monster is a strong indication of a fresh restoration, as they gave Colony in Space an extra disc on the S8 set to accommodate the original RSC restoration from the DVD too. The Claws of Axos had space for its RSC restorations to appear on one disc with the newer versions too, but with Peladon having four episode that might reduce our chances of a ground-up restoration there (though one lives in hope!). Since The Sea Devils is also getting the double disc treatment, perhaps they're touching up its first three episodes from scratch instead of Peladon? There are a couple of possibilities... Double Day is hardly surprising, as it got a double DVD release as well. Single Mutants isn't too surprising either, as you can fit the double DVDs' worth of content on a single BR disc. I'm excited to see the Jo Grant era completed on Blu-ray. I'm secretly hoping the next Pertwee set will be Season 7, but I know in my heart that we're probably a long way off that yet. It's probably the best Pertween season though, and the wait has already begun to get agonising

It’s worth noting that this season is very well served in terms of extras. That doesn’t equally translate budget wise, but there may be more restoration work involved in this set compared to the norm in order to balance the additional content, so to speak.
I suppose we’ll know in a few hours when the announcement is made! Galaxy 4 listed the product on Monday, albeit without cover and further details, and were presumably told off, so amended the wording to a rather cheeky “New Product available to order from Thursday January 26th at 3pm”. So there’s the announcement time.

The packaging as always, looks great for this, and it is so good to be getting such consistent releases on Blu-ray. Those who want other Doctors' stories released won't have to wait too long at this rate.
The first three stories are classics for me. The Peladon story in particular is a beautiful production and I can't wait to see what new extras are lined up for those. The other two tales - not so great, but still very hotly anticipated.
Inevitable comment perhaps, but - I really cannot wait for this!
