Well, I don't think it's a question of wrong, so much as it is questionable expectations or desires. Thankfully, unlike the Star Wars fans these days, we at least don't have an entire arbitrary story mapped out in our heads for what every Doctor should unquestionably be. We do, despite our tendencies, to at least give things a fair shake.
That said, I have railed against the notion that has, in many ways accidentally, forcefed that Who can only do Holmes-Cartmel type stories, Nothing wrong with Holmes or Cartmel of course, but it would be nice if the knee-jerk response to judging the merit of stories isn't always 'make it dark or big and heavily mythological'. Less can be more, sometimes, and if we are returning to a more Newman-Wilson-Webber ideal with 13, that may the most original thing in forever.

That said, of course such things are, quite often, generational, I agree, but I still think Colin Baker especially gets hit with a lot more grief than any of the others, and certainly far, far more than he ever deserves to, regardless of one's personal feelings towards his, or the extended JNT, eras of the show. He probably does in all fairness, although some of his Sixth Doctor episodes are the worst Doctor Who stories ever to be broadcast for me, but I certainly don't blame Colin Baker for that as he was only playing a part. If you're an actor and the script says strangle Peri and throw her to the ground, you do it... it isn't going to go down well with some of the fans in love with Peri though!

I think most fandom goes wrong when they begin to feel entitled to being treated or catered to in a certain way. The only thing any creative team owes anyone is to produce the best and most engaging material they can. Yes.

I don't get all the hate for Colin Baker. Even if you disregard Big Finish, he had plenty of good TV episodes, and only a handful that were unwatchably bad.

When people slammed Sleep No More because it dared to do something different. I thought it was an amazing episode of the show that broke from the show's standard format to tell the narrative in a creative and immersive way.

Sure, Davison was young and blonde, but they opted for the complete opposite of Baker.

Anytime I see someone completely write off a Doctor or companion as garbage, I find it hard to respect the rest of their opinions. A fandom that hates first is no fandom.

Criticism and personal taste is one thing, making no effort to see a positive side is quite another. EDIT: Oh BTW I wasn't reacting to your opinion on the C Baker years at all - answered the thread question without reading the rest of the responses first. Skimming now, I realise it could have read that way...
