So, following from a brief discussion on the First Doctor Adventures thread regarding the similar personalities of the Master's incarnations, what kind of persona would you like to see the character adopt in future?
Mine are: 1.) A physically intimidating and angry male villain who is evil due to his very nature. 2.) A spontaneous thirtysomething goth girl who acts out of sadism. 3.) A Machiavell-type gang boss who acts for material gain.
So what new and interesting directions would you like to see the character take?

Based on how the Dreyfus Master was presented, I'd say only 3 makes any sense. Or, as #2 suggests, are you thinking ahead to another new incarnation?
I'd rather keep Dreyfus around now that he's done one episode. I quite liked that presentation. Sane, calculating, no overblown theatrics.

Uh-oh. If #2 is a thing then I think I dated the Master for a miserable year in Leeds.

Someone who genuinely thinks that a them-led dictatorship would be s good thing for the universe. Affable, polite, utterly trustworthy, brutal murderer....

I caught an interview where Tom Baker said that he would have liked to have seen Johnny Depp as the Doctor, and James Gandolfini as the Master, and that certainly lends itself to interesting interactions.

I'd also like to see a Mads Mikkelsen's style Hannibal version of the Master. Always brilliant and controlled, sophisticated and epicurean, urbane, seemingly benevolent and absolutely irredeemably mad and monstrous beneath that surface. Maybe make him a cannibal too. That might be too squicky, but it does have a particular horror all its own. (Also, he'll be quick to observe that it's not cannibalism if he eats humans)
Since the Master works best as a dark mirror of the Doctor, give him companions and make them reflections of the Doctor's companions. He could steal away, either by persuasion or hypnosis, one of the Doctor's companions and one of the existing companions would hate him for it.

Sorry but no thanks, Depp has already ruint one of my favorite characters as it is. :-) I'd also like to see a Mads Mikkelsen's style Hannibal version of the Master. Always brilliant and controlled, sophisticated and epicurean, urbane, seemingly benevolent and absolutely irredeemably mad and monstrous beneath that surface. Maybe make him a cannibal too. He could steal away, either by persuasion or hypnosis, one of the Doctor's companions and one of the existing companions would hate him for it. Somehow I don't doubt Simms' Master might have resorted to cannibalism had he not gotten his hands on a hamburger. :-) I think that's a great idea about the Master and companions - in fact I think we might have got a little bit of that with ...And You Will Obey Me. For I think it started to seem like maybe the Master was building sort of a twisted parody of the Full TARDIS "family" and really it did make an impression.
