It wouldn't neccessairly be fan service, though. Chibnall is going to establish his own take, but there will be callbacks when the dust is settled. Ten's era is an immensely popular one, in some shape or form, that is going to be tapped into again. Enough time I think has settled has about how fans feel about Rose's return for such a story to be told. Yeah but you can't maintain longevity if you keep expecting viewers (most of whom should be kids) to know about plotlines from 10 years ago or more when. Off of them probably weren't even born. And even if it were to turn up in the new series, there'd have to be a massive info dump on the audience to bring them up to speed, because they can't reintroduce Rose as easily as they did with Sarah Jane in series 2. Rose's exit carries much more baggage with it. I'd fight you on that. I think it can be done, given the epic nature of Rose's story, it would be appealing to children and there fascination with The Doctor and his history.

I doubt it, given that Rose is unlikely to return. It would mean they'd either have to rehash her escape from Pete's World in The Stolen Earth/Journey's End, or have the Doctor and companions inexplicably find themselves there even though it is supposed to be impossible in order to reintroduce her in the main show, and both would be detrimental to her two exits. Sorry, I expressed myself badly. While I would love Big Finish to tackle Meta Crisis and Rose's life post- Journey's End, it feels to me very much like something the new series might want to keep it's eye on and tell. I don't think with the upcoming Meta Crisis Ten Short Stories we're really getting anything else other then then a grounded approach to the ending of Journey's End.I'd be surprised if Chibnall has any interest in it. Current series seems very much to be heading towards a clean slate. If the new series did have an immediate interest in revisiting it I doubt they'd okay the Short Trips featuring the Meta Crisis Doc. Its possible the Short Trips are meant to tie into something down the line, last year's double bill (the two Time War ones) were seemingly timed to tie-in with release of Eighth Doctor: Time War 1, and Susan's story was hopefully setting up something to be followed up on elsewhere than the Short Trips.

But it raises a whole load of other questions too, like Rose's romance with the Doctor - would she still love the Doctor in her current incarnation: is she bisexual or heterosexual? And if the answer is the latter: why doesn't she still love the Doctor when she's the same person as the man she loved? Clara would be much easier to bring back without changing companion dynamics and without any narrative situation like Rose trapped on Pete's World getting in the way.

Well, Billie Piper's already answered that www.radiotimes.com/news/2017-09-05/doctor-whos-billie-piper-thinks-rose-would-still-be-in-love-with-the-female-doctor/ I don't think it would be that difficult to address in-universe, either To me, it really feels like something Chibnall (and higher ups in the BBC) would want to have in his back pocket.

I'd love for Big Finish to do a Tenth Doctor two-parter and have an agonising week-long wait between instalments

David Tennant has just signed on to an HBO series... I'm not optimistic for more 10DAs in the immediate future.

Plus, I'm fairly certain he said something to the effect that it didn't take much work. This may have been in a Vortex or may have been something somebody here said based on a con panel. Anyway, what I took away from whatever it was was that the great difficulty was aligning schedules so he could be in the studio with Tate (or was it Piper. Probably both). But the actual work involved reading the script, thinking a bit, then performing it off the page. I'd have assumed a voice actor would have more memorized everything they were to do the way a stage actor or tv/movie actor does, minus the physical movements. It sounded much more low-key. Unless I've got my wires crossed, that suggests to me that doing more BF won't be a problem as long as they can line up recording dates with him and whomever he's recording with the next time. He won't have to set aside X extra days to prepare.

Hadn’t read that tweet, love it! Billie’s cool! I think Chibnall would be happy to have Rose back but not until a year or three in the Producer’s seat. Also want to point out that Piper used a 🌹 emoji in that tweet to symbolize Rose so it wasn’t exactly the craziest leap above to assume she might be doing the same again.
