Blame autograph scalpers and their Ebay black market. They're why we can't have nice things.

Ah, The Daily Mail. I thought you might be a fan! It was on a Peter Capaldi trend. Again, you insult your very own intelligence!

I've seen people charge £120 before now, this, whilst admittedly expensive, isn't THAT bad when that's taken into account.

Schwarzenegger and Stallone are 500 quid each for a photo and autograph at their "Evening With...." events. Michael J Fox was about 350 quid for a photo with him and the DeLorean at London CC a few summers ago.
Wheras Sylvester McCoy is about 20 quid, as is Colin Baker. Supply and demand - big in demand stars are going to cost a pretty penny to book. Older acts who have been on the signing circuit for decades? Not so much. Capaldi, like Tennant and Smith, charges more because he does limited dates, he's not up and down the conventions every other weekend like a lot of classic series actors. They can't charge as much as new series Docs and they can't charge the same as the Terminator and Rocky. It's pretty simple economics - the bigger the star, the higher the cost for their services.

If I remember correctly, Capaldi was charging $110 for a signature on a photo he provided and $130 if you were providing the item he'd be signing.
Alex Kingston and John Barrowman charged $60. Barrowman also charges for selfie with him - I think those were priced at $50.
I thought the prices were a little high, particularly in Capaldi's case, but as long as people are willing to pay it, there isn't much we can do about it.

Capaldi was charging pretty similar prices for autographs and photo ops when he was here at Florida Supercon, too. I skipped the autograph and split the cost of a photo op with a friend.

It is amazing the amount of cash a performer can make at shows like these.

Tennant and Smith have probably made more by now from big American conventions than they did by appearing in the series. There was a report in Variety last year on how much people were making from them and they were getting 250k for a weekend.

I have a couple of TV friends who have done some convention circuiting and the money can be insane.
