With Audible releasing another Alien novel dramitised adapation next month, I'm curious: how extensive is the Alien Expanded Universe? And how have they developed the universe beyond the films?

There's a whole bunch of comics, books and video games, but each one, or comic series, seems to be stand-alone. For books there's the Out of the Shadows trilogy, which has two books with Ripley (one's a story set between Alien and Aliens, the other is the events leading up to and during the Xenomorph infestation of the Hadley's Hope colony just prior to Aliens) and one set long after with her descendent.
The video game Alien Isolation is very well received, and features Amanda Ripley, Ellen Ripley's daughter, seeking out the black box from her mother's escape pod but encountering scared humans, hostile robots and a powerfully and stealthy Xenomorph. The AI for the Xenomorph has been praised, as it's completely random and it learns from your actions. Definitely have a spare part of pants handy.
Comic Books• Fire and Stone (2014 - 2015)◦ Prometheus: Fire and Stone ◦ Aliens: Fire and Stone ◦ Alien vs. Predator: Fire and Stone ◦ Predator: Fire and Stone ◦ Prometheus: Fire and Stone—Omega
• Life and Death (2016 - 2017)◦ Predator: Life and Death ◦ Prometheus: Life and Death ◦ Aliens: Life and Death ◦ Alien vs. Predator: Life and Death ◦ Prometheus: Life and Death One-Shot
• Aliens: Defiance (2016) • Aliens: Dead Orbit (2017)
Literature • Out of the Shadows trilogy (2014) ◦ Alien: Out of the Shadows ◦ Alien: Sea of Sorrows ◦ Alien: River of Pain (ties into the Fire and Stone comic saga)
• The Weyland-Yutani Report (2014) • The Rage War (2015 - 2016)◦ Predator: Incursion ◦ Alien: Invasion ◦ Alien vs. Predator: Armageddon
• Aliens: Bug Hunt - Anthology of 18 short stories. (2017) • Alien Covenant: Origins - Prequel to Alien: Covenant (2017)
Video Games • Aliens: Infestation (2011) • Aliens: Colonial Marines (2013) • Alien: Isolation (2014)

Bug Hunt is an interesting one as some of the stories are actually non canon from what ive heard It's got me rather intrigued by its premise. I wonder if it's possible to do a solid Alien story without the alien in question? (Speaking as someone who thinks that both it and Blade Runner share in the same universe.) I'm going to have to buy it for featuring a short story called Hugs to Die For.

Sounds like I'm going to love Alien: Isolation I remember seeing novels back in the nineties when I was kid, but but I guess they got retconned due to Prometheus?

Yeah i love that title

There's also the upcoming Aliens: Dust To Dust comic series as well. Thanks Looking at the release date, that's actually really suprising since the collection came out before Conevant. You'd think they would want to keep everything straight.

There’s also the rather complex issue of what is and what is not part of the “canon”, because comics that came out between Aliens and Alien3 gotvthemselves retconned because Alien3 killed off Hicks and Newt, but the comics (which by that point had a complex and deep mythology all their own) had to be altered and the nature of the xenomorph itself has changed since, making them even more outside of canon (in fact, Covenant seems to make OTHER FILMS non-canon specifically the “Alien versus Predator” films).

I wasn't AGASINT Newt and Hicks dying in Alien 3, but I hate the way it was handled, so it's nice to have an alterantive
I thought Prometheus got there first in terms of retconning Aliens Vs Predator (It's been years since I saw Aliens Vs Predator, but I specifically remember it taking place in the then 'present day' Earth.)

There aren't any around but the paranoia someone has that they could be might endanger a colony or a ship.

I suppose a story set on a ship AFTER a xenomorph infestation could be an exercise in tension and terror. Alternatively, the Corporations versus an honourable rogue (Simon Templar, Leonard Snart, that Doctor Who fellow) might be fun.

That's a decent concept for a video game, piecing together a sequence of events from what's left. You've got a glitchy system and survivors who may be hostile, not to mention Company agents trying to scavenge anything Xenomorph. Factor in a time limit, like a decaying orbit or a self destruct and you've got something potentially as nerve wracking as anything involving the Alien.

Eh, I think Weyland's just to evocative of the Xenomorphs. Outside of that, there just an morally bankrupt evil corporation.

The Defiance mini-series is about a woman who seeks to actively hinder the Company's efforts to obtain Xenomorph material. Typically Alien stories about about people who come across them, or in response to the crisis that inevitably occurs. Not often do characters intend to stop the Company by stopping the alien or intercepting the Company agent.
