We're seeing a lot more of these than we used to, with a number of different approaches. There are ways these are done, but what do you think works?
As far as I'm concerned, remakes shouldn't rehash the originals. It needs to add something to justify remaking it, be it a divergent storyline, character touch or setting change that genuinely adds a new dimension. Ditto for sequels, which should expand on the world, not just repeat the first one. Look at Aliens or T2 Judgement Day. Aliens sicks countless Xenomorph onto a helpless colony, and introduces the Queen into the Xenomorph lifecycle. Judgement Day shows the effect of Sarah raising John to meet his destiny on the both of them (she's all no-nonsense and locked up in a correctional facility while John doesn't take her seriously until the events of the film), and they take an active role in events rather than run away from the Skynet assassin.
