The BBC (I believe) has a bizarre rule that newcomers have to prove themselves on a daytime TV show called Doctors (John Dorney was talking about it, so I assume it's true). Just quickly jumping back to this for clarity: for our non-UK members, Doctors is like, say, ER or Grey's Anatomy, but with a fiftieth of the budget. It's broadcast on weekday afternoons for cosy, not especially taxing, viewing, since 2000. It's probab;y the most tame of the major continuing dramas/soaps on British TV (those being Eastenders, Emmerdale, Hollyoaks and, a name I'm sure even you'll recall from 7th Doc DVDs, Coronation Street). en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Doctors_(2000_TV_series)
