(This post will go into spoilers, so read on at your own risk) If I'm perfectly honest, I didn't have a clue what was going on by the end. My interpretation was that this was all just a "hyper-sleep induced dream", with Dendrick using Nilly as a way of interpreting the dreams. All this is based on that scene near the end where he is discussing stuff with Nilly about what makes humans humans (although, having just typed that, he wasn't supposed to be able to talk to Nilly anyway... that hadn't occurred to me until just now). If it was all just a dream then it all feels really inconsequential. If it's not just a dream, then what exactly was going on with the Dendrick/Nilly scene? If that conversation was taking place in the past, what relevance did it actually bear on current events? I don't know, the complete lack of any explanations for anything by the end sadly doesn't have me intrigued, just irritated that after four hours of listening I really don't know what happened beyond a (frankly) very basic plot with very basic characters. Ironically, there didn't really feel like there was anything particularly "original" about this release. It felt very much like a lot of well-worn sci-fi assets being repurposed to try to tell a new story, but since there was no resolution to anything at all (and the fact that the Originals range doesn't seem to have gone too well, with only ATA Girl receiving a (reduced in length) second run) I just feel like there really wasn't much point to all of this. I guess my summary of the release would be this: "Part 1" of any story should still be able to tell a story in its own right. If that story isn't gripping in and of itself, you're not likely to get an audience clamouring for "Part 2". My feelings for this are like the ones I have for the first season of Lost - it wanted to tell a story but didn't feel like actually getting to that story until after the first season. Sorry, but I sat through 25 episodes of that show only for next to none of it to actually count for anything. Once bitten, twice shy. I'll be seriously debating whether or not to get the second series of this (should it happen). Hmm. Interesting thoughts. Interesting interpretation! I would not have thought of that, but now that you speak it out loud...
What did I make of that scene with Nilly at the end? {Spoiler} I actually thought that Dendrick might still be somehow alive in the AI network. And therefore able to talk to Nilly and control her. Maybe he has downloaded part of his consciousness into the AI. This would also make sense- as far as I understood it is Nilly there to help and support and does not really have any world domination ambitions. But with a controlling human consciousness in the background, someone who has more sinister plans and plans about dominating the human race, could very well create a situation in which the AI would start taking over the planet as the rebel Tritons claim. It would also nicely create a leader for the faction of the machine minds. Of course played by Nick. Who also plays some other creatures bent on universal domination. So we would have the xenophobic Tritons with their psychopathic leader, the Eco Jedi and their living planet mind and the machine minds with their creator. Setting up a nice little three front skirmish.
However, if we do not get a second series, having the explanation you were giving would add a conclusion. Just not a very satisfying one.
That was the other possibility that had crossed my mind but I forgot to mention it when I posted. That would certainly be a more interesting route to take, though it would make the whole "Will I dream" thing seem very redundant in the end. Like I was saying before though, with no real indication of what was going on I'm not sure I'm invested to enough to try out a second series to see which it might be. If there is another one I'll probably wait for reviews to see if it's worth getting some answers (though there will invariably be answers that won't be provided in the second series either).

Well, I think this had potential, but as others have stated the way it was pieced together made it difficult to follow at times. I honestly spent most of the first episode trying to figure out if the tracks were out of order or the cat had slipped something into my food - I almost didn't bother finishing the set.
Highly doubt I'd bother with anything else in this "universe".

I've listened to the first episode. Didn't think much of it. I only bought this out of curiosity & lockdown boredom. Oh well. I may listen to the rest eventually.

This is all very disappointing to read. I guess I'm pushing this one to the back of the queue.

A really good sci-fi tale but a really bad examination of the human condition with very few shades of gray and an out of nowhere alien... threat? Presence? Whatever it was, it really brought it down. That said, it's a nice puzzle box of a hard sci-fi tale and while I think I wouldn't get a Volume 2, there's enough there to make it worth hearing again down the line.

so he I don't see how it is suspicious in any way. It says to me Nick wants ownership of it so he can possibly shop it around. It does sound like it is the kind of thing that would translate to TV or film. Or even books & comics. As creator, I certainly understand why he would want to own the copyright. For all we know the creators of all the other Big Finish Originals have the same agreement in place. This was just the only one which stated it on the product page. Anyway, I thought it was interesting. Reasoning from Nick himself www.youtube.com/watch?v=eiHVPwYXXhYRegards mark687

As I have noted, I only mentioned it because his Originals was the only one with that ownership tag.

Re-started with part 1 yesterday, did part 2 this morning, have part 3 on now.
I have not been this confused by an audio's chronology since the first time I listened to The Wrong Doctors, and it's really detracting from my enjoyment. Which is a shame, because everything else about this -- sound design, music, acting, directing -- is all top-notch. But it's hard to get invested in a story when I don't know what's going on. Still hoping it makes more sense toward the end, but skimming the replies in this thread I am concerned that that's not looking likely.

Yeah, it is impossible to listen to this while doing anything else at the side. It is quite tiring to listen to because it requires complete concentration. I also had to pause my listen through because I also listen to audios when doing chores and this one is just not... suited for that.
Otherwise I agree that it is very well done.

I usually love non-linear stories. Creature of Beauty is one of my favorite BF stories, which is why I really thought I would like this one. Oh well.

Oh my this is a pile of %#*+
Anything where you keep having to go back more than three times during the first episode Cause you just confused ain’t worth my time and effort.......
Given up after two episodes
So thats all the originals bundle that are crap or just ok.......so that was a failed experiment.......For me at least
That 3 out of 3 releases that have failed to hit the mark with me lately, time slip 3rd doc box and this.........are bf finally running out of steam, over stretching themselves or am I just expecting too much
Bitterly disappointed.

Okay, finished it.
Have to admit that the concept they announced for this just a little while ago - the idea of a sleeper ship that launched earlier arriving at a colony world centuries after a second ship launched and colonized....I really enjoyed the humanistic drama thoughts that conjured up in my head. It seemed like it was a really wonderful idea for examining the human condition and doing some terrific interpersonal drama as these two groups try to integrate. So whether it's fair or not, I was let down by my expectations for the product.
Independently of that, I stand by some of the things I said earlier: I thought it well made (acting, sound design, music, directing, all top notch), but the weird structural/chronological style really detracted from my enjoyment. And for me at least it didn't really come together satisfactorily at the end.
It wouldn't be fair to say I disliked it. There's a lot of smaller stuff to enjoy. But as a whole, I came away from it a bit lukewarm.

Sequel Announced in this weeks Podcast no other details yet
I wonder if there is a massive audience on Audible for BF content, then they find the BF Website and go "Oh no they actually want more real money in a one time hit and I get to keep it to rather than getting a few pennies every month the swine's.

I mean, there have been five other Originals that have been out for ages that haven't got a sequel and this gets recommissioned within three weeks? I don't like being this kind of person, but if this doesn't scream "I'm the boss so we're doing more of mine," I don't know what does... Some of the Originals have been hands down fantastic and not picked up again, and this one gets a second series after a lukewarm response (judging by this forum). Of all the Originals, I would have liked to get confirmation for just about any of the others first.

I honestly thought it was more likely we were going to get more Jeremiah Bourne or another series of Cicero.

Yes I know we do not have sales figures, so it's entirely possible that Human Frontier sold like gangbusters where the other releases did not, justifying a second release, and we just don't know about it. And we absolutely are not entitled to those sales figures, so we'll likely never know. But it's also really hard not to come away with the perception you describe.
