Just curious: is anyone else going in cold for the next series?

What do you mean by 'going in cold', given that we know next to nothing about it anyway? Or do you mean avoiding trailers and promo shots, when they're released? That's always an option, but I've learned from previous experience that anything in trailers if fair game, and people are likely to discuss it in places that you may not be expecting, so going in cold is pretty difficult to do

I kind of want recreate the experience back in 2005 when I didn't have much access to the internet and didn't know what was coming. I have no doubt Chibnall is going to have Star Wars-levels of secrecy, but just to safeguard my experience So, I'll probably be ignoring this side of the forum and just be focusing on the Big Finish side

Me, for one, will do as I always do, avoid discussion, trailers and spoilers so the reactions I have will be my own.

The only thing I intend to know about this series going in is whatever they end up showing in the trailers. That's proving to be harder than I thought it would...

I am not watching it, everything I see and hear makes me think it’s no longer for me......
I might watch it once it’s aired, and people’s views I trust say it’s good but I certainly don’t want to at my ratings to something I think is wrong.
And before all the sexist hate comes my way again, it’s everthing from the companions, run time, direction........it just all seems to shout change to make my mark not change because it’s needed.
Sorry to slightly derail the thread........
What I really meant to say was going in cold is the best way.....I often wish I had unread and unseen stuff.......

I like knowing a little bit about what we're in for, I think it doesn't hurt any to be a little bit prepared - but I'm not going out of my way to find out more before the season starts.
I'm generally avoiding trailers which I also do 97% of the time with Big Finish audio, because I think they rarely do justice to a production and there may be a risk of finding some small dislike to dwell on without the whole production being immediately available to defend itself by showing where those small details really belong in the bigger picture.

It may be a great experience for someone who has never seen the series.

Bar televised trailers and mutterings trickling their way into casual non-spoiler comments posted on forums such as guest stars or the odd photograph or two in the tabloids, I always do.
It's the best way to experience the show.

Eh, I'd rather recreate the feeling I had with Aliens of London, warts and all or The Empty Child or Bad Wolf or The Impossible Planet, where I'm: "Oh, s***" it's a two-parter. Personal preference, though

I try to but it's not always easy. Do you live in the UK? I think, despite the series being VERY popular over here in Australia, it's kind of easier.

Before I decided to go in cold, it seemed that we were left but nothing but the vaguest of teases and nothing about the companions had been announced yet. Don't know if that's changed, but the impression I received from Twice Upon A Time and the Twelfth Doctor promos before it was more of a return to the more optimistic tone of the Ecclestone/Teannet/Smith years of 'Trip of a lifetime'/rollercoaster ride into the unknown.

Hello again. Definitely. I am avoiding all media and internet sites such as Digital Spy and Radio Times and the BBC site. Season 10 was completely ruined by spoilers. I am not making the same mistake again. I am even taking it further. I am treating series 11 as a complete reboot very much like RTD's 2005 series. If I was Chris Chibnall I would draw a line under previous continuity. (Sharp intake of breath from fans! ) I feel that needs to be some links to the past but the programme needs to explore different eras of history, create some new monster and keep focusing on telling a good story. Twice Upon a Time brought to an end one era of Nu-Who. After five male actors playing the iconic role we have the first female actor giving her interpretation of the Doctor. Given that she has been in such varied roles from the ditzy secretary in St Trinian films to the distraught grieving mother in Broadhurch; I think she will bring much to the role. The new era is taking the programme into an interesting and exciting new direction for Dr. Who in its 55th year. The only thing I know is a certain male quiz show host is playing one of the new Doctor's companions. I'm still laughing at one of the boldest and funniest casting decisions in Doctor Who history! Here's to September...

Hello again. I jest of course. Excellent in Corrie and Law and Order UK and properly scary in Sarah Jane. He will be a great addition to the new Team TARDIS. Even though he's yes, very high profile and probably most famous as a game show host and singer he's a remarkable actor you're right. I'm used to seeing him in Law and Order but I know he has comic timing as well. I was posting in a thread on GB in regards to one more "I don't like the companions at all and think they're a horrible choice because I can't handle diversity" comment and I realised something super cool about the companion make up. Not only is it the classic crowded Tardis style of The First and Fifth Doctor but I realised nobody has a perfect advantage. It hit me suddenly and I realised that any situation the team is in will have extra dimensions to it even if they aren't mentioned on screen. If the two blokes are together, yes they're both blokes but Tosin is a young person of colour and Bradt, although white, is an older gent. He also has a black wife. Which makes me wonder if Tosin might be his stepson. That dynamic would be really cool I think. Tosin could even be Bradley 's son but I think Sharon is much younger than Bradley Alsl I was looking up Sharon D Clarke's name and she's married to a writer named Susie McKenna! My jaw just dropped! I had no idea She was like me. So so cool!!! But like I said Tosin could be playing Sharon's son and maybe even Sharon's son With Bradley's character which would be pretty cool. Chibi likes family connections so Dad travelling with his son would be par for the course. I have this visual in my head of someone being super nice to Bradley's character and racist to Tosin and Him saying "That "----" as you so eloquently put it is my SON! " and then he storms off indignantly as everyone watching at home cheers. But just their dynamic even if they are just two blokes has so many levels to it which brings us to our two women. We have The Doctor. Scientist, Genius, owner of cat pins and stylish umbrellas. and her other new companion, Yasmin. Both are women however Jodie is confirmed as using her Northern accent and is white and of course Mandip is our first Asian companion(cheers and fanfare!) I would love to see a scene that subverts expectations where The Doctor actually experienced prejudice for the way she talks and Mandip has to stand up for her. Which considering some of the nasty things I've seen said about how Jodie talks apparently doesn't even need time travel for it to happen. But ehat I like is that everyone in the Tardis Team is unique and all of them would/will have experience with being judged for being different. Now that I have thought about it I'm really hoping Tosin is Bradley's son/stepson. Travelling through time and space with yer dad just seems like it would lead to some great character moments. I was already super excited and now I've not only gotten happy about the possibility that Bradley is Tosin's dad but foudn out Sharon D Clarke is lgbt! It just makes me so happy!!! EDIT: Got distracted there. I always tend to go in somewhat cold. I will stop reading spoiler threads a month before air and will avoid trailers news, everything before each episode. Apparently the big reveal im the Series 9 premiere had been leaked online months earlier. I didn't know about the leak, I knew nothing about it at all. Magician's apprentice was the best series premiere shocker I think I've ever seen. I don't know what is planned for series 11 but even though "The Pilot" didn't have any earth shattering shockers I had no idea it was a beautiful love story. I was crying at the end. I still get full of tears when I think of Bill and Heather. People were really nasty and cruel to me every time I posted about it(or if I Just posted about Bill herself) Considering the extent and scope of that nastiness I know it would have involved spoilers too. People tried to spoil WEAT for me by maliciously telling me Bill was dead. Because of that I was glad I had such a beautiful and intimate first experience watching it. I don't know what's planned for series 11 but I want to be surprised, dumbfounded, and thrown for a loop!

Nope. I'm someone who likes the news, the photos, the trailers and the spoilers. I don't find it impacts my enjoyment at all.

This is where not watching much TV comes in handy. I get to ignore most of everything, and completely forget the show airs, to only binge it a few months later.
