DOCTOR WHO - MAIN RANGE » 144. THE FEAST OF AXOSReleased February 2011Synopsis“Axos calling Earth. Fuel system exhausted. Request immediate assistance.”Many years ago, the vast space parasite Axos attempted to suck the planet Earth of its energy. Now it’s all but forgotten – a dried-up husk, marooned in orbit, still stuck in the time loop it was placed in by Earth’s defender, the Doctor. Forgotten, that is, except by space tourism billionaire Campbell Irons – who’s hatched a plan to solve the world’s energy crisis by reviving Axos, and transmitting its power back to Earth. But the crew of the spaceship Windermere aren’t alone aboard the parasite. The Doctor has returned, to correct an error of decades past… And Axos is waiting. Written By: Mike Maddox Directed By: Nicholas Briggs CASTColin Baker (The Doctor), Maggie Stables (Evelyn Smythe), John Pickard (Thomas Brewster), Bernard Holley (Voice of Axos), John Banks (Campbell Irons/Svenni Nilson), Andree Bernard (Joanna Slade), Chook Sibtain (David Brock), Peter Forbes (Craig Swanson), Duncan Wisbey (Philippe Lefevre)

My favourite of the Evelyn/Brewster trilogy. A great story. Mike Maddox should do another one soon He's not been active for a while, and didn't do that many stories. He wrote Spring and Summer for Circular Time, from story ideas that came from Paul Cornell (who wrote the other two stories in the release), next writing Legend of the Cybermen (a brilliant and very clever story) to wrap up the Sixth Doctor and Jamie trilogy. Actually, from that trilogy, technically a quadrilogy including Night's Black Agents, only one of the writers still works for Big Finish, Barnaby Edwards. City of Spires is Simon Bovey's only Big Finish credit, while Marty Ross would only go on to do a Main Range, Lurkers at Sunlight's Edge, and a Dark Shadows, Dress Me in Dark Dream. Mike Maddox has also co-written a couple of stories with Alan Barnes, Gods and Monsters in 2012 and Trial of the Valeyard in 2013 (released for general sale in 2014). He was able to do Axos justice on audio, and that's pretty good considering there'd just been an Axos story in the DWM comic strip (The Golden Ones, collected in The Child of Time) that was running when this story was announced.

The Feast of Axos After multiple tries I've made it through this one, and all in all it was pretty good. I was waiting for one of 'The Windermere' crew to show their true colours and wasn't disappointed.
Axos, big booming voice and all, was a bit much but I appreciate this is a sequel to one of the TV episodes so it was probably about right (I've never seen it).
Great soundtrack and production. 7 out of 10.
