Anyone been watching RTD's new miniseries about the Jeremy Thorpe scandal?

What could easily have been overly self-serious and stuffy, like so many historicals, gains a welcome amount of levity from Davies' writing. It's like a comedy of errors, albeit tinged with darkness and tragedy, the center being Thorpe: a man so obssesed with visions of grandeur he forgets the immediate. There's a wonderful irony in all his schemes being undone by a stupid card and Davies milks it hard.
Grant's performance is vital as to why this is so successful: he's such a b*stard but he's so charming and friendly.
