My eldest has said she wants to listen to a Doctor Who in the car after I subjected her to The Scorchies. She and her younger brother have long loved the BF Wizard of Oz and Treasure Island.
Any Who recommendations that aren’t too a) complicated and b) scary

Fourth Doctor stories are probably your safest bet. Tom is just so warm and endearing, especially when he’s playing against Louise/Leela in the ‘straight man’ foil role. And as an added bonus, the 4DAs are only like 45 minutes long, as opposed to the Monthly Range titles running close to 2 hours (and challenging kids’ attention spans). Steer well clear of Torchwood, Dorian Gray, and Omega Factor

Steer well clear of Torchwood, Dorian Gray, and Omega Factor Funny how the 4DA's came first to my mind too - they don't tax the brain and any traditional Dr Who macabre elements are kept in check with Tom's trademark 'you're safe with me' levity. The Auntie Matter is popular for this reason as mixes horror and humour. Also Jago & Litefoot always provide safe and comfortable listening. Last weekend I listened to Jago & Litefoot & Strax - some aspects of horror have an element that kids will enjoy with an 'urghh' but there is more humour and character interplay to keep it light. Finally, the original CD short trips collections are excellent for short attention spans and all different, like a pick and mix.

10DAs and the first few series of EDAs would be good as well. There are also some solid MRs that are kid-friendly, like I.D., and (possibly) The Two Masters trilogy- Vampire of the Mind is probably your best bet with that one. I think Demon Quest is starting up on Radio 4Extra again soon, so you could play those without splashing any extra cash.

Oh! You could always try new-Who spinoffs as well. UNIT, River and Jenny seem pretty family-friendly.

Doctor Who and the Pirates
Not sure about that one, the framing story might be a bit much?
What about "Human Resources", I can't remember anything unsuitable in that.

Doctor Who and the Pirates

'Pirates' is a wonderful story, dark, funny, tragic and optimistic all at the same time but it's one of the most complex and mature in the MR imo. Pure genius from Jacqueline Rayner.

I think he was baiting a bit definitely for a mature audience.

10DAs and 4DAs should be fine.

The One Doctor is pretty harmless (nice at Christmas)... Shada was a favourite growing up (McGann's Eight really makes it his own)...
My brain just kind of jammed gears on the Fifth Doctor. He's a nice, welcome and genuinely honourable fellow... His stories, on the other hand, tend to deal with very heady subject matter and/or a lot of violence. Red Dawn, maybe?

How about 'The High Price of Parking'? Fun & action story and a good one for a car journey, especially if you use a sat-nav!
Seconded 'The One Doctor' - panto time and very funny.

Oh! You could always try new-Who spinoffs as well. UNIT, River and Jenny seem pretty family-friendly. Halfway through 'Jenny' and I'd certainly agree with that one, very 'New Who', not complicated and fun - even when the Ood get to work with their orbs.
'Vampire of the Mind' is another good call - spooky but in a 'Scooby-Doo'ish sort of way. The only problem is the open ending - and The Two Masters' is quite violent and so complex I still can't get my head round it properly!

I forgot how much murder there was in The Two Masters! Yeah, maybe steer clear of that one, then.

Thanks everyone.
One Doctor, of course. And even that Eurovision knock off might be appropriate.
Got four or so 4DAs so will give them a go.

4th Doctor Adventures - 2 episodes, so nice and simple/easy. Baker also makes it clear how much he values the Doctor as a 'role model' for children, so I doubt he would do stories that they could not listen to (allegedly he was always impeccably behaved in the presence of children, both when playing the Doctor and in the years afterwards).
From the Main Range - perhaps The Marian Conspiracy (nice and straightforward and it has the Tudors - popular in Primary Schools), The One Doctor (comedy and light-heartedness), The Kingdom of Lies, The Serpent in the Silver Mask and The Eye of the Scorpion (Ancient Egypt - again popular in Primary Schools).

Some of the Lost Stories perhaps, like Nightmare Fair or Season 27.

Flip-Flop/UNIT: Dominion/The Locum Doctors trilogy? Flip-Flop: No UNIT Dominion: Not really Locum Doctors: Possibly, Secret History would be most appropriate
