Hello again.
As a few of you know, I am still, two years later, working my through Sixie's adventures on audio. I've just finished Wirrn Isle. Creepy... Now Started Ultimate adventure and well...
What is going on? A companion who sounds as if he belongs in Allo Allo and mercenaries from Eastenders. The Cybermen and Daleks as allies, the Doctor squawking in bird 🐦 language and an never-ending song about a galactic bar! Oh, and the barely convincing impersonation of Mrs T.
I will return to it with trepidation tonight. Wish me luck...

Someone's actually put this together on YouTube

Hello again.
Thank you Mark687, I knew it was a play but from what I've just seen on YouTube, your second description of pantomime is more accurate.
I think I'll stick with the audio version the staged version really seemed amateur. I wonder if this video was taken as shortly after Colin Baker took over. It all seems rather flat. I would love to hear from anyone who actually saw it live.
Well, I'll stick with it. I expect the documentaries accompanying the audio will be interesting. Thanks again.

Hello again.
I've had a little think and realised this was made nearly thirty years ago. It was probably made for peanuts and had to tour twenty theatres.
As always Colin Baker does the best he can with the material. Big Finish are to be commended for even bothering to resurrect this.
I think the songs could have ditched apart from perhaps the nightclub one. Either that or they should have gone to town and made it a musical like Sixie's audio adventure with the Pirates which perhaps is a little dark for a family audience.
The Crash of the Elysium in 2011ish revealed that there is an audience for live Doctor Who. Maybe it's time for Dr Who to return to the stage. Ole Grumpy and Bill Potts would be awesome but unfortunately unlikely!

I saw the play live with both Jon Pertwee and Colin Baker. JP up in Aberdeen and CB in Edinburgh. I wouldn't term it a pantomime but I would say it was a romp adventure, which was terrific fun to see live on stage. It was quite a technical show and had a few things needed ironed out early on but it was smooth by the time I saw it. The cosying up to Thatcher didn't play well up here, especially the inference that the Doctor had won an election for her. She was - and remains - as popular as plague up here. I'd have changed that scene sightly for the Scottish dates. It got a ropey response in Edinburgh. But I digress. I found it hugely enjoyable as a bit of fluff. It was fun to see the Daleks and Cybermen on stage. Both Doctors I saw did a lovely job. CB certainly broke the Fourth Wall with a few smiles and glances to the audience. I really enjoyed it.

Hello again.
Act two is much better if you ignore the song. Colin Baker does a good job. Delilah's exit is sensitively handled. I loved the scene where Jason gets dumped back in the French Revolution. The Emporer Dalek looked and sounded excellent. It must have been a real treat for the children it was written for.
On the whole I'm still not sure about the songs. However, bravo Big Finish for reviving these plays as a record for fans who were not able to see them. I enjoyed the documentaries too. The explanation for the Mrs T interpretation demonstrates the dedication and research some actors do even for a small part.
As for me, I'm off to Breaking Bubbles and Masters of Earth and nearing the end of my Sixie odyssey.

This thread amuses me - its very existence says so much about the sheer weirdness of this play. And I do love that the Sixth Doctor is in two musicals, even if one of them is this.

I wish I could have been alive to see them in the late 80s, they looked like a lot of fun. A harmless bit of fluff and a romp across the universe. Apparently, David Banks understudied and got a couple performances in as his own Doctor too.
Looking at the Nick Scovell stageplays for Master Plan and Evil of the Daleks, I reckon you could get a lot of mileage out of restaging some of the old wiped stories. A lot of them feel as though they were written for the theatre anyway, so the translation from screen to stage would be largely an easy one.
I'd have loved to see either Doctor have a crack at The Tomb of the Cybermen or maybe even gently amended Curse of the Daleks. I'd be all for a revival of stage Who in one shape or another, though if it's not globetrotting, I might end up being a bit geographically challenged...

Actually, no joke, I listen to the TARDIS console room hum when I have a particularly bad headache. Eyes shut, earplugs in, low volume; it's really soothing. Doctor Who and the Room Tones of Death.

The cosying up to Thatcher didn't play well up here, I can imagine. Her cameo in James Goss's "Krikkitmen" is rather surprising too.

Yes, I was rather reaching for a crucifix and holy water at that point. I'd been warned to expect... her. I'm an old leftie so I will never be a fan of hers. But I won't get into a political rant here. It's not the place for it and it I got started I'd still be here at New Year, sounding increasingly like Rab C Nesbit and bellowing "And another thing...". I rant enough about politics in other places. I shall spare everyone here from enduring that.
