Worst kept secret in Trekdom the past months but GREAT to get it confirmed. Wonder if it'll be Picard heading the Academy?

Not just the 80s either, I've very fond memories of being led onto TNG from a video of The Voyage Home with the original Enterprise crew. We'd scoop up as much TNG as we could carry and they'd be the thing I watched coming home from the day. It'll be great to see Jean Luc again, like coming home to an old friend.

I remember we watched a few eps out of order and I had 1 of my 1st "spoilers" LOL.
This will be watched by me for sure.. As for Sir Patricks age, should be interesting to see how the physicality is going to work.

As for Sir Patricks age, should be interesting to see how the physicality is going to work. Oh, man, the whole of Voyage Home starts with this five-minute recap of the two films before it. I was so young that I thought it was just part of the film, like the beginning narration in a Disney film. I didn't realise until years later that I'd just had two films spoiled for me from the word go. It was really cool at the time, jumping neck-deep into something that already existed so completely. It may be retreading old ground a little, but it'd be interesting to see them attempt something similar to what was done with Xavier for Logan. Picard coming to terms with his advanced age and learning to cope. On the other hand, people live until their 200 in Trek, so maybe through some clever technical wizardry he'll be slinging blows as easily as he did in his youth. "Pow! And so forth."

Wow. They really have no idea what to do with Star Trek. Is someone just shouting out ideas in a room?

Wow. They really have no idea what to do with Star Trek. Is someone just shouting out ideas in a room? Definite feeling of “let’s do what fans will like” as opposed to “let’s do something that’s new and different” radiating from Star Trek right now.

That said, Alex Kurtzman never fills me with hope.

Feels very much like a man with chips said, something the fans want in reaction to the somewhat negative backlash of STD. Not too dissimilar to star wars with their clone wars revival.

One of the things I would like to see front and center is a Jean-Luc Picard focused show that deals with age. Heroes in twilight is a fascinating subject to me. I don’t think I’d like it to go as dark as Logan did with Professor X but a long form adventure series where the main character has limitations that were not there before would be rich material to mine. And just as a side note, a TV series featuring a lead who is 78 years old is something to be celebrated.

I envisage it starting with Picard, retired, living on his family's vineyard growing grapes and making wine, but a crisis that only he can solve leads Star Fleet to asking for his help. He refuses, so they burn his farm down.
No, wait, that's Casino Royale.
