how great to hear an older Barnabas and nice for the original actor making a return to his role sad he will never do more. Beautiful tale and John Karlen just settles into his role.A great addition to the many that i have now enjoyed.
I only read others reviews after i have had a listen myself and am glad ,as i dont like others thoughts in my head ,that can get planted there ,especially when they are negative. I can make up my own mind.

This was my first ever experience of anything Dark Shadows. Absolutely wonderful, and proof that a continuity-lead story doesn't put people off. Now all these audios, and the entire coffin-shapped DVD collection later, I have a lot to be thankful to this story for.

Yes I have seen that coffin shaped DVD collection ....and itโs hefty price tag ๐ have enjoyed these audios though wonderful storytelling without drowning in past continuity just enough not to bamboozle new listeners.

The coffin box is also a hefty weight. It's also - to be frank - about the size and shape of a child's coffin; something I only realised as I started to walk home with it in my arms over Tower Bridge. Once that thought had entered my head I expected the police to come screeching to my side and guns to be pointed at me by the time I got to Tooley Street. Obviously all was well, but I certainly got some funny looks. If you get a genuine copy (and there are - amazingly - some very convincing listings of fakes out there) it's a great thing to have, mind. I love people double-taking when they walk in the front room.

It's just a shame it has an image of Barnabas resting on the inside of the coffin box, around the time poor Jonathan Frid left us

I really enjoyed The Night Whispers. I was so happy to see Jonathan Frid, John Karlen, and Barbara Steele (the 1990s Dark Shadows revival Dr. Julia Hoffman) in it. Plus it was great having Barnabas have a story from his younger years without the usual Josette-Angelique love triangle, though of course both were referenced. I don't tire of them, but it is refreshing to have a character in a slightly different context. Barbara in particular had a unique voice (I feel like that ought to be mandatory for any version of Dark Shadows ever) that I was so pleased to hear again in Dark Shadows-related contexts. I wouldn't object if Big Finish could work their magic and have Barbara Steele in another Dark Shadows audio...
For those interested in the series, I just wanted to send a quick reminder that the entire Dark Shadows series is available on Amazon Prime in the US and I'm pretty sure England too. I don't know about the rest of the world, though it would be a shame for Dark Shadows to not be digitally available everywhere. It did have a Spanish translation that was popular during the time of the original series...

It did come to me the other day that perhaps they are casting also based on looks nowadays because IMAGE is the in thing and not on vocal and acting talent.

And not just for Dark Shadows - it'd be great if they could get Ms Steele in for a guest spot in any range, like Who. Heck, do an original story with her to follow on from The Horrible Dr Hichcock and The Ghost to make a Hichcock trilogy! I'll write it myself. (I may getting both overambitious and a tad too obscure there, though)
