That's it? That's what they're replacing Absent Friends with? www.bigfinish.com/news/v/new-torchwood-titles-revealed-for-2022With the greatest respect to the cast and crew of The Black Knight, I'm sorry: this is not good enough. The people who didn't want refunds (or were waiting for the gap in their bundle to be filled) deserve something that carries the same significance as David Tennant appearing in Torchwood and reuniting the Tenth Doctor with Captain Jack. Some repurposed Norton Folgate script, by comparison, doesn't carry the same weight and I'm frustrated that Big Finish is presenting this as a replacement when customers were sold something as highly anticipated as Absent Friends. People can still get refunds, of course. And I know it was (probably) the BBC's decision, not Big Finish. I'm just frustrated s'all -- Absent Friends was recorded and edited and ready to go; we'd had five months of build up and anticipation. We were days away from release. Then it vanishes into thin air and Big Finish has to pretend like it never existed. I just wish we had more information. It's not Big Finish's fault, I know. But was this really the best they could do? (I'm not condoning Barrowman's actions. If Big Finish or the BBC want to cut ties with him going forward, that's up to them.)

I don't believe BF were under any obligation to provide an alternative release which was as "significant" as Absent Friends; significance is subjective anyway, and it's hard to see how they could have provided something higher-profile.

It fits with the idea of Norton and 1950s Soho being the face of BF Torchwood going forward

Calling it "50X" seems to still leave the door open for a real 50.

I'm not sure what Big Finish could have done to 'replace' Absent Friends, bearing in mind the two actors involved are either ridiculously busy or have been black-listed. What has happened is a shame for fans of the range, but these things happen. I'm tempted to say 'that's showbiz'. 'Replacing' a story featuring saucy Captain Jack with saucy Norton at least seems to indicate the tone of Torchwood stories remains undiminished. I would love to hear Absent Friends, but am very happy with the news of these releases - in fact, very happy with any news at all.
Of the four, Sonny is the one I look forward to most. Lizzie Hopley is a brilliant writer.

I’m kinda not surprised by The Black Knight. Big Finish’s had to throw something together in hast, so has turned to one of its most readily available contributors, Samuel Barnett, and built a story around that presumably. It was never going to be something of the scale of Absent Friends. I’m sure it’ll be fun enough ride, as tends to be the way with Norton. And this is more fuel for the idea that Norton is becoming the central character of Big Finish’s Torchwood.
Well it’s nice to have some certainty about Torchwood till April at least.

So Big Finish just sent out an email implying you need to contact the sales team to confirm you’re happy to receive The Black Knight. It’s already listed in my account on the website by default so I assume they actually meant contact the sales team if you’re not happy to have it?

Huh. To be honest, I thought they’d replace Absent Friends with another crossover character. Say Ianto meeting River Song or the Brigadier with the latter suggestion possibly setting up the idea that Torchwood and UNIT have had dealings before.
Still, I do like Norton Folgate as a character (always think of him as if Kenneth Williams became a government agent) so I’ll give The Black Knight a chance anyway.

Well, I still kept Absent Friends in my list, and I refuse to refund it. I am also not happy with this (just because I cannot stand that character) and cling to the vain hope that maybe, one day, Absent Friends will come out. I wonder if the remember then that I never refunded?

It means contact them if you don't want it to be bought in march when it releases, can we not argue the semantics of what they meant? If you don't want it then you ask for it refunded if you do want it you say nothing. Will absent friends come out eventually? Honestly it seems less and less likely and people need to accept that. I feel like there is a lot of vitriol and bias floating around the Torchwood monthly range at this point. We need to just put Absent Friends behind us and move forward.

Onto a less angry point, can we just say that Sean Longmore is the GOAT of covers right now? I mean these four just solidify how good he is! Like these are GOLD!

All look like fun, and its great to have three female written stories back to back. I don't think that Big Finish would have been able to really replace Absent Friends in a way that people would respond to tbh, though I will admit The Black Knight sounds the least interesting out of the four to me as the other three are some of my favourite characters and/or writers.

You know, I’m looking forward to the inevitable Vortex article to see what they have to say about The Black Knight.
I doubt they’ll go into much detail but still, be interesting in any case.

Sorry, but this is a bit aggressive. I wasn't trying to criticise BF or "argue semantics", I was just saying that I was confused as to what to do as the email suggests if you're happy with the replacement that you need to email them. There was no need to be so rude.
