The most likely scenario is that Alan Barnes was told that someone else was handling it (and on a proffessional level, it shouldn't be on him to do so) and given that Big Finish worked, started working on the adaption given how quickly Big Finish work on Fourth Doctor projects. I imagine Big Finish always goes through the proper channels, regardless of connections. Things happen, even to Big Finish.

It's time to stop talking about this. Big Finish does us the very informal courtesy of coming here and discussing projects. I can't imagine that they didn't do their best to get the blessing and creative input of the creatives involved. Also, on a personal level, I'm really trying to recover and bounce back from stuff.

I don’t particularly see why Alan’s getting singled out here, as that’s really not an adapter’s responsibility. If I’m honest, I’m not sure whose it is, or even whether it’s BFs or Panini’s (although, as you say, it’s technically not anyone’s responsibility at all!), but it certainly isn’t something the adapter should be expected to do. I honestly just hope that he has fun with it. It's got to be a dream project and his style's perfect for translating that medium (I still think of Brotherhood as TV21's Dalek Chronicles, featuring the Doctor). I have one concern about all of this... Is there enough story in each story to create a two-disc release without most of the running time being brand new material? The strips have never been the lengthiest things... Fair concern, but I think there'll be enough there to do a solid four-parter with if needs be. The Iron Legion and The Star Beast was originally released as eight parts with 34 pages in total, for example. The set pieces should allow for quite a bit of wiggle room in regards to blending the base panels with original flavour additions. Assuming they go for four-parters, I'm hoping they do. The total run time is three hours, so it looks like Big Finish is going down this route, if it's not an error. And I'm looking forward to it. It's an extended celeberation of the era with the Fourth Doctor himself!

Assuming they go for four-parters, I'm hoping they do. It's listed as a 300-minute five-discer, so I expect that's four hours of story and a behind the scenes doc Also I can imagine some of the visuals would be hard to translate without some major expansion. Plus if I'm remembering my Doctor Who Weekly correctly*, some events in those stories happen waaaay quicker than you'd be able to do on audio. We forgive comics for having a scene in three panels, but having a three-line scene on audio wouldn't work. *I'll have to re-read it soon. Probably once in the next couple weeks, then again after I hear this release!

I keep coming back to Big Finish did a deal with the holder of the license for those stories, in this case, Panini. Even Pat Mills acknowledges that. I suppose Big Finish could have reached out to him based on working with him on prior audios as a courtesy but they were under no obligation to do so. I fail to see how, based on what we know, Big Finish has acted in any way improperly.

For those interested in dipping their toes in the water for these upcoming adaptations, The Ratings War starring the Sixth Doctor and Beep the Meep (the titular Star Beast) is available for free as a download from the Big Finish website.

I'd love a boxset of Tides/Stars/Horror, as long as they could get Mark Williams back to play Max! Same with Jemima Rooper and Robert Jezek for Izzy and the Bird Did anyone else read "Izzy and the Bird" and get an altered version of the theme tune for Pinky and the Brain stuck in their head for several hours, 'cause I sure as heck did now, you've gt me at it.. Izzy and the bird Izzy and the bird one of them's a lesbian the other's absurd

So jumping ahead...if these are successful and the last story introduces a new companion character for the Fourth Doctor...what other comics with that pairing should make up the second collection?
Or do those who have read the strips think that if Big Finish want to keep Sharon around they would do better creating new adventures rather than adapting the comics?

I'd honestly go chronological from Star Beast with The Dogs of Doom and The Time Witch. One puts the Doctor front-and-centre as the body horror menace (a la Axos, the Wirrin or the Krynoids) with K9 vs. Daleks in an alien zoo. The other is a Labyrinth-style war of wills where battles are won by a stray thought. The comics go from strength-to-strength for quite some time and it's hard to find a Fourth Doctor entry that doesn't sparkle. If it does take off (fingers and toes crossed), I think they'll do very well with the adaptations.

Is that Anjli Mohindra as Sharon? Oh god don’t that’s what I said about Bliss (who turned out to actually be Sheena anyway) I think everyone sounds like Anjli Mohindra when you don’t know who they are and you’ve just got their voice I imagine it’ll be someone who looks a bit more like Sharon, it would be odd for them to cast someone of Asian descent as the first black companion.
