I really enjoyed this set of stories, but didn't find the final resolution of collision course particularly satisfying: {Spoiler} - The Sirens influence the pilots of the first TARDIS tests flight, resulting in them blowing it up, being scattered through time, and preventing the formation of the Time Lord society
- The first 5 1/2 episodes revolve around the Doctor encountering the various bits fall out from the explosion: the TARDIS, the holes and a pilot.
- Romana and Leela go back in time to the original launch, and in attempting to prevent the TARDIS being blown up, only succeed in persuading one pilot to kill all six, preventing the flight altogether.
- In order to ensure the flight actually goes ahead, 6 Doctors turn up (will having been gathered by Benny) and successfully perform the test flight.
- And now the problem - the original pilots are still dead, so the timeline is still corrupt, the nascent Time Lords are still not going to consider it a successful flight, delaying the development of their society.

I agree, you hit the nail on the head- I had exactly the same thoughts.
However, all the Doctors coming together just makes such a sound of awesome that it drowns out a lot of discordant noise...

My take on The Legacy of Time is now up at CultBox: hugely entertaining and full of old friends.

This was addressed in a throwaway few lines. Very short summary: Romana: I left a note. Leela: Isn't that cheating? Romana: Yes.

The Legacy Of Time, a 6 part joy to listen to from start to finish, tense, dramatic, emotional & superbly acted with a excellent music score & stunning sound design.
Easily rate this 5/5.
Oh & i called that surprise cameo way back when box set was announced.

For the throwaway line- well, yes, however, I did not even hear/ realize this line on first time listening (I was doing something else at that time and was a bit distracted).
So from my point of view I would not call this "explanation" in any way satisfying...
It is a bit of a plot hole in an otherwise great release.

After listening to this myself,
I'm wondering with the announcement that the Fourth Doctor is encountering the Nine, whether Thanna will be there as well. As did seem the Doctor knew Thanna, and knew she was with the Nine, before the Nine even knew her name! The Fifth Doctor also said something about no more paradoxes...

Yeah, that's what I figured too! A neat little callforward/callback.

In saying that didn't The Nine recognise Five as well?

In saying that didn't The Nine recognise Five as well? Yep, but I think that formed part of the paradox that Five was talking about. Nine and Five have met previously (though I think sometimes the time lords recognise each other even if not in the same body as previously seen?), Five has met Thanna in the company of Nine before (not necessarily in same incarnation), but Nine has only just met Thanna - thus some point in Nine and Thanna's future is in Five's past

Just thinking but did it seem to others that {Spoiler} 8 in collision Course might have been from before Lies in Ruins?

Just thinking but did it seem to others that {Spoiler} 8 in collision Course might have been from before Lies in Ruins? {Spoiler} He did seem a bit chirpier, presumably Benny deliberately recruited him from a happier point of his life having seen how bleak things were getting by the time of Lies in Ruins.

Speaking of Benny's recruitment, is anyone else dying to see that boxset? A one off 3 discs with 30 minute episodes of Benny pulling the Doctors to help fix this mess?

Just thinking but did it seem to others that {Spoiler} 8 in collision Course might have been from before Lies in Ruins? Yeah, must be. {Spoiler} Nobody could seriously consider using that crying broken wreck of a man for anything and it would not have been fun, either. This is actually another thing that slightly annoyed me in the last episode- that suddenly, the 8th Doctor is his old happy self again. It just came a bit out of nowhere.
