Forgive the somewhat OT thread but I watched Guillermo Del Toro's 2015 film Crimson Peak last night. It's a gothic romance-horror about a young woman who marries into an old family with a rather spooky old estate built on a peak. I'm sure you've guessed, the reason I mention is that this film is probably the most Dark Shadows-like film I've seen in a long while, and it's quite an insight into what a Del Toro DS film could have been rather than the Burton one. I can't see much from the production about a DS influence - Rebecca, The Haunting and The Innocents are the films cited in the extras as informing the film - but I'd say it's certainly present. Really this story could easily be a BF audio story. So partially a recomendation and partially a comment. I'd seek it out if you haven't seen it. Oh, and for a bona-fide Dark Shadows connection, Jessica Chastain is in it. Multi-Oscar nominated actor she may be but to us she's Caroline from the DS 2004 pilot. Yes, even the title is quite evocative for BF listeners. And the house is more than a bit Collinwood I'm keeping the Caroline typo though. Y not? Yer man Owen off Torchwood is in it too.

I can't agree there - I'm not sure genre film-makers get any classier than Del Toro. Even when his films are more overtly horror they look stunning and have more imagination than anything Hollywood hacks like the Blumhouse, to use the current Horror kings of tinseltown, put out. When you've got your own Criterion Collection boxset, as Del Toro does, I think class is implied.

I went to see it when it came out. I wouldn't normally watch horror genre in general but this movie seemed different and it was gorgeous. Even the setting gave you a sense of decay, like how the house had once ben been quite elegant but now parts of it were decrepit and leaves and snow blew in through the roof. A nice creepy atmoshperic movie for a fall day.

I’m getting that. Looks gorgeous...and I absolutely love Pan’s Labyrinth and The Shape of Water. Can’t believe I missed this one—and Jessica Chastain, Tom Hiddleston, Mia Wasikowska and Charlie Hunnam!!! What!?!? Amazing cast!
