Oh yes. Some parts of reddit have been completely taken over by undesirable people. I only stick to my animal and other hobby sites, I avoid pretty much everything else (including anything Star Trek or Who related). With that amount of toxicity, one could fight crop pests in India for a decade. I had been very shocked by some things people dared to write in the past. Only just yesterday, someone in a "friendly" subreddit shared a post of one of the Right Wing types. It was utterly disgusting. We have laws in Germany trying to prevent hate speech and openly using Nazi paroles, but honestly, who is going to police that? There is now so much of it. Yeah, I've pretty much disengaged from most social media stuff by now, too. And when I was on Twitter, I never even interacted with the fandom communities that tend to be the worst -- but there was no small amount of racist nonsense even in academic twitter! The platform changing to "X" was just the final straw for me. On Reddit, a few of the smaller, well-moderated communities are probably still okay (though I haven't checked....), but that qualification is the real kicker. It's not just a matter of "policing" all the bigotry, so much as that we've allowed so many platforms to spring up that rely on bigotry to farm engagement, or are outright run by bigots, or are operated by apathetic libertarians (or "closeted bigots") who refuse to moderate everything, giving the worst people in the world free reign. (Or is that free rein? Or are both metaphors essentially communicating the same concept?)

It still has it's creeps, but because the site doesn't rely on an algorithm it's easier to avoid such people. Also the collective is far more left leaning than it's CEO/staff so they organize and fight back against the right wing on their own without the need of mods.
It's in real life I come across the Nazi crap all the time.

Another intense day at work. Another of my colleagues said she is thinking about quitting. 2 other colleagues have quit only just recently. Work atmosphere at work is at an all-time low.

Trivial in comparison perhaps, at our place, the cool air fans were taken away from our rooms/work stations nearly two months ago and haven't been replaced. A wire had come loose on one, and therefore they were all treated as a health and safety issue; with the oncoming warm weather, days have become uncomfortably warm. Not illegally so, but people are becoming ill spending 8 hours in the heat and humidity. "We're looking into it," say the managers when they occasionally emerge from their air-conditioned offices. In other words, they couldn't care less.
Yep, when we're unhappy at work, it casts a big shadow over our lives.

Yep, when we're unhappy at work, it casts a big shadow over our lives. Yes, very much this.
Nobody is happy, everyone growls at each other, and I am a very sensitive person, even if I arrive in a happy state at work in the morning, I soak up all the frustration and unhappiness by noon and then at night, I have trouble sleeping. Healthy living is something else.

Unbelievably, I just wrote a reply and then accidentally deleted it! The worst thing to do is to 'take work home with us', and sometimes it's impossible not to. There's no solution to this, I think. For all modern day mantras about how employees 'care' for their staff ... they couldn't care less really. Just make sure you treat yourself to something nice on payday!

I hope you get to feeling better soon thanks- hasn't gotten larger some 12.5 hrs later. A few ppl on this forum have seen pics.
pain drugs/elevation, ice packs 15 mins on 45 mins off , strapping, moon boot. I checed with 5 separate ppl no one has a walking stick/cane/crutches argh.
So things escalated. I now have crutches and a moon boot and a football for a foot!
When the results of the x rays came back the doctor tried to go into "bad news mode" by saying, "there is evidence of skeletal degeneration which means you are developing.." I cut her off by saying "yes osteoarthritis. I have had it full body since 1987 when I was 12 years old I haven't had 1 day without some form of severe pain".. Her response.. "Oh.. ok".
So I am living the dream now.

There’s a horror movie called Alien? That’s really offensive. No wonder everyone keeps invading you.

It's really amazing how many doctors won't look at their patients medical records until after they've already started talking to them. At one point when I was in a particular bad state and in-and-out of the hospital/ERs frequently, I even went ahead and made a printed-out summary just to save time!

Chronic pain is no fun. I spend a lot more time in the wheelchair than I did last year, and more than the year before etc etc. While the meds get higher and higher. Aging...

Yep, when we're unhappy at work, it casts a big shadow over our lives. Just to quote myself here, we've had an update on the air fan situation. The noticeboard tells us "We are awaiting a date when we will look into this." What? My friend mentioned to a manager that there will need to be plenty of First Aiders on standby as the temperatures rise, because staff members are going to be passing out in the heat. "Oh don't worry," our manager laughed. "We've got lots of First Aiders." This is an extraordinarily worrying situation. I should point out that I work for a pharmaceutical company!

It absolutely blows me away,Aussie. A couple of people have gone home ill as a result of this already, and of course won't be paid for their time off. At this less-than-busy time of year, I'm beginning to believe it's the company's plan to save a few quid ...
