It's been a rough 16 hours. So my son finished his 3rd year (Junior Year here in the USA) of a 4 year animation program at the University of the Arts in Philadelphia a few weeks ago. Yesterday evening we found out that his school is closing permanently. We didn't find out from the administration, and they aren't giving the kids a year to finish their programs or find a new school to transfer to. We found out through social media and a text from my son's manager at the job he works at on campus. And they are closing this Friday! It's a mess, with the students, families and professors reeling from it. My son and his friends just signed a year long lease on an apartment in Philadelphia! Where will he transfer? Will he transfer or take a year off? Will he stay in Philadelphia? What happens with his school loans? Financial aid, grants and scholarships? It's like the rug has been pulled out from under him and all of the plans he was making for graduation and beyond are in tatters. I've been looking at programs for him, but we just don't know anything. This happened at my old school soon after I graduated. (I'm also an animator) He shouldn't be charged for any loans due to the closure, but whether or not his credits with transfer is up in the air. It kind of depends on where he transfer to and if he sticks to the same program/degree.
I would go ahead and fill out paper work asking for loan forgiveness just to have your bases covered.
If he's still interested in animation however he's going to need to move to either LA, New York, or Atlanta cause that's where the work is and where he's going to make contacts. All of which is more important than a degree.
He also needs to be taking this time to work on his portfolio. He's art work itself will speak far more to employers than whatever school he went with.
Also start networking now, before graduating. Attend animation festivals and cons. Start talking to people already working in the industry online. And get to where the work is.
Thank you for your advice. Yeah, he was planning on moving to LA right after graduation, and we are from the New York area. His plans for the summer was to get a job and work on his portfolio and sending them out. He's actually going to LA at the end of the month to start to scout some things out there.

So those cowards who ran their school into the ground cancelled the "information session/town hall" meeting THEY scheduled and announced 10 minutes before it was scheduled to start. This is complete and terrible mess. And I honestly believe that they are hiding something criminal. I was so distracted at work today I could barely function. All the parents need to band together and start a class action law suit really. I would see who else you can get in contact with and start exchanging phone numbers/media site accounts ect. Yep, this is already happening. The faculty and staff have their own lawsuit happening as well. And multiple investigations have started but the state, the accreditation board and even the federal department of education.

Met a few more of the regular Who cast yesterday; Catrin Stewart, Samuel Anderson, Janet Fielding & Bonnie Langford. All utterly delightful.

Our right-wing party is now second strongest party in the elections today. And this after 2 of the head candidates were removed from the election roster for working with Chinese spies and accepting money from Russia. This is NOT a very good day, neither for my country, nor for Europe.

Today in Oz is a Public Holiday, Monday 10th June..Up until last year it's always been "Queens Birthday" (even though 21st April was her birthday).. This year it's "Kings Birthday".. Mrs and Junior are going out for 1/2 the day so I have a few hours to catchup on 2-3 horror movies . And do 2 loads of washing..

It's a weird holiday. the 1st Monday in June.. There is a whole ceremony thing. People who get a "title" (Not Sir) for doing things like public charities, services to the public above n beyond etc.
A large portion of the public want to get out from under "UK Rule"..

This is NOT a very good day, neither for my country, nor for Europe. France is ahead of you by the look of it. And there are ominous rumblings here. (I'm guessing you meant the new far-right? Not your traditional right party that's often been in power like our Conservatives.)

We should definitely get the King's Birthday as a public holiday. He's our King too you know!
Hope the ankle gets better soon, I did mine once playing squash. Ouch. And by no coincidence, it was the last time I played squash!

it's always a thing when one of them visits Oz - costs 10's of millions of tax payers money. Charles' father a couple times, completely insulted the indigenous community a couple decades ago. What he said was caught on camera!

I mean the AfD, which is under observation by the state police for extremist status. The same guys which had a meeting in February about ETHNIC CLEANSING which sparked massive demonstrations with millions of people on the streets all during early spring. The same party where the leaders just went to court because going public in speeches with real live NAZI paroles. Saying the same stuff the leader of the SS said back in the day, and then feigning ignorance saying "Oh, I did not know the SS had paroles like that." (Yeah, right, pull the other one)
The same guys where the two leading candidates were removed because they had Chinese spies working for them and accepting Russian money.
The party is so f**ked up, that even the French and Italian right wing parties REFUSED to form a coalition in EU parliament with them.
The German right wingers have to do their own thing now.
These are now THE SECOND STRONGEST party over here.
To say I am not impressed and amused is an understatement. I went to the massive demonstrations and protests in early spring this year, wearing my Sixie costume (Motto "We are colorful, not brown"- since brown was the color of the original Nazi party).
Worst of all, I have a family member who is VERY MUCH into them.
She is basically what a Trump supporter would be in the US.

That's appalling. We've been hearing about the results in France and their snap election, but our own election has more or less taken over the news here so I've not heard much else about the EU election results. Except that there was a row of some sort between some of the populist parties who'd made gains - thanks for the explanation.
I love the idea of using Sixie's errrr... vibrant wardrobe choice to show your opposition. The Doctor would definitely approve!

It definitely feels like the far-right reactionary crowd is only ever increasing. It certainly doesn't bode well for the future....
Hell, I only popped in here to voice some frustration on a much less serious, but very-much-adjacent, topic. I made the mistake of visiting Reddit for the first time in a long while the other day, only to discover one of the subs I used to frequent has been entirely taken over by incels. Nothing but people whining about having a black man as the protagonist of the upcoming Assassins Creed game, or frothing at the mouth at how horrifically ugly the woman in the new Fable game is -- despite, to my eyes, adhering quite closely to conventional beauty standards -- all receiving hundreds of upvotes and no pushback. Utterly nauseating.
It's the kind of thing that makes me look at some of my hobbies with disgust.

I only stick to my animal and other hobby sites, I avoid pretty much everything else (including anything Star Trek or Who related). With that amount of toxicity, one could fight crop pests in India for a decade.
I had been very shocked by some things people dared to write in the past. Only just yesterday, someone in a "friendly" subreddit shared a post of one of the Right Wing types. It was utterly disgusting. We have laws in Germany trying to prevent hate speech and openly using Nazi paroles, but honestly, who is going to police that? There is now so much of it.
