Well, look at the state of Germany now to answer your question on how well our rainbow coalitions have been doing. The previous one was not popular, but the current one.... they are constantly infighting, nothing gets done, it is just toddlers throwing sand at each other (the only thing they seem to have managed to get out and done that was met with moderate approval was the legalization of weed, none of the REAL issues, which is all you need to know).
Hence the mess in the elections.
And I do not see any improvements any time soon.
I will cite one of our great poets who said at the end of the 19th century "Denk ich an Deutschland in der Nacht, bin ich um den Schlaf gebracht" (if I think about Germany at night, I will have nightmares; that was actually very prophetic of him)
Maybe I was wrong to assume your politicians are better than ours? Good luck. Not sure why you think you have the monopoly on incompetence. I think maybe all politicians worldwide do the same international seminars "How to be a muppet 101" and so on.

The evidence suggests some may have advanced well beyond '101' level...

Just gone midnight- just got home from seeing the mighty Iron Maiden live in concert. Amazing band- have been representin' them since 1988 they are truly gifted musicians. They must be so old. The drummer is 72 , he had cancer a couple years ago and a stroke in January this year. We noticed he didn't play a few songs 101% like the album (just a few less all over drum fills) . didn't detract from the songs.
Everyone else is between 64-48 and they were running around stage 1hr 55 minutes - a lot fitter than me that's for sure HAHA!
We continued the tradition of singing the Music back to the band, not the lyrics as the music is so melodic.

Made and not made: harvested our home-grown tomatoes (all outdoor grown) before the cooler and damper weather can bring on the dreaded blight.
An excellent harvest this year, many still green but they will ripen. So that's very good - but it's a marker of the end of summer. Ho hum.

Later today the Earth will be hit by a small asteroid. (Really.) About 17.40 British Summer Time.
The good news is, 'small' in this case means about 1m and our atmosphere will take care of it, but the fireball will be spectacular and meterorites are very likely. Somewhere near the Philippines, is the predicted entry point, where it will be around midnight so with clear skies expect videos! Too far north for our members in Oz to see anything probably, as I think you are all in the south of the country?
But still, impressive that these days even such small objects are found before they impact and can be tracked and predicted. And a reminder that the cosmos doesn't know or care less about our earthly concerns!
EDIT: The rock is codenamed CAQTDL2 and was discovered by an automated sky survey at Mt. Lemmon in Arizona.
Right on time, very bright and lots of people out with their phones!

Would it fit into their universe if you told them it was the rocket exhaust from more lizard people landing in their spaceship on our flat earth to deliver anti-vaccines?
It isn't of course. Lizard people are all* asleep in their underground bases, any fool knows that.
(*Almost all: 'Another of those lizard-people-seeking humans has rung the bell, Madam.' 'Well, deal with them as usual Strax.' 'At once, Madam! Total obliteration!' 'No, Strax, just tell them I'm not at home...' 'Very good, Madam...')

For a while now, there had been an outbreak of the summer flu at work. People were still dragging themselves in, at least until it became unbearable, since with holidays and sickness, we are understaffed. In the process, new people became infected. Hurray, now it hit me. Just woke up in the middle of the night, in my living summertime sauna that is my top-floor flat, sore throat and slime central. Trouble breathing. Will stay away from work today, even if I will make myself very unpopular, since work simply will not be done today (others are either sick or on holiday). But honestly, I do not think, even if I came, I would get a lot of quality work done today. Hopefully, this way I will be fit for Sunday for the baptism of my niece. Big family event. Will spend the day on my balcony, lots of fresh air, bought lots of fruit and material for nice hot soup, and will do some reading and listening to some audios.

I'm coming up for my 3-week-anniversary of what I'm fairly sure is COVID again. There's been a lot around in the UK this summer and I'm sure it's all over Europe just the same. 'It feels different this time' as someone once said no cough to speak of, but a week of sore throat, sneezes and aches, thought I was getting better rapidly, then hit by a week of real tiredness and aches (so I discovered 'rebound COVID' for the first time), now gradually getting back to normal and much less tired, but not there yet.
Curse and obliterate this virus!

I came across a reference to 'vegan apples'.
Presumably these are apples imported from the same place as the mining expert in Episode 1 of 'The Monster of Peladon'. Talk about food miles...
(Yes, I know. But in what sense can an apple possibly not be vegan? Genuinely baffled. 'Organic' I do get, but all fruit and veg are by definition products of the vegetable kingdom only. Assuming no grubs! We have some apples ripening on three little trees in the garden right now. They're just - apples - grown from water, thin air and a few nutrients from the soil like any other plant. *scratches head in a puzzled manner*)

Some apples are treated and coated in bee's wax, which is an animal product and therefore not vegan. The wax is put on to make apples look prettier and more shiny.
If they are true vegan, than they have no wax cover.
In the same way some beer is not vegan. For example, in some beer varieties (and this is pretty common! or has been in the past), the beer is filtered through a material made from fish swim bladders. This is no joke and is even used in Germany, where beer is sacred. But if fish bladders are used in the filtering of beer, vegetarians do not consider this beer "vegetarian" anymore.
So if you buy guaranteed vegan beer, it was produced without swim bladders.

Thanks tui, I knew someone would know, this is a great forum! So it's just pointless cosmetic treatment by retailers, yuk. Glad to say where we shop the apples are sold loose and look like apples. Fruit and veg that looks too 'perfect' always makes me suspect either a variety bred for looks, not taste, or ridiculous amounts of waste from sorting out 'imperfect' produce.
For me, beer is something that happens to other people! Though I do know one person who has probably sampled every beer in every pub for miles around - some people are really serious about it in England too.
