Not made my day: the next 4+ years.
I simply cannot fathom coming out for Biden because of how big of a threat Trump is, but not for Harris.
I simply cannot fathom thinking "eggs are expensive and a Democrat is in office. Therefore, I vote for Trump next time".
I simply cannot fathom thinking "we stuck a soft landing with just about full employment and had less COVID inflation than the vast majority of the world, and I want to punish the Democrats for that. So I'm voting for Trump!", especially when there were 2 stimulus checks under Trump and 1 under Biden.
I cannot fathom 52% of white women voting for Trump. Do they have a Handmaid complex?
Oh right...and I saw it suggested that Harris may have lost 1-2 million votes because of people on the farther left were angry at the Democrats for not being as anti-Israel as those voters, therefore, not voting for Harris (thus helping Trump) or even voting Trump. Congrats! No matter what they think of the Democrats' response, Trump promises a complete blank check to Bibi and offers encouragement. And he also threatens to tear down democracy right here at home. I can't fathom someone doing that and thinking they took some kind of principled stand.
There's a lot of leftists here who think we're going to have a communist/anarchist revolution because things will be so bad under Trump. And they've spent as much time as possible completely wrecking any organization or ties to actual politics as they can because of their "moral superiority." They've thrown strategy out the window and thrown everyone they supposedly care about saving - the people who would SUPPORT THEM - under the bus. It's only a worldview that could be born from privilege and small-mindedness. So yeah, sounds exactly like my country. |

So a few weeks ago I made a statement that something life changing had occured. Well, here's the story. For the last 7 years(!) charlesuirdhein and I have been involved in a long distance relationship. I fly to London, he flies here and we have been making it work for a lot longer than it should have. Well, he proposed to me on that fateful evening and I said yes, so I will be moving to London and starting a brand new life. We will be getting married at some point, but we don't have a date yet. There it is. Life changing. And I couldn't be happier. And it's all thanks to Doctor Who, Big Finish, and this little forum of ours. |

So after that post, here are some things that didn't make my day.
-I'm still reeling from the election, and again I am extremely thankful that me and my family live in a blue state. Especially my daughter. And I can't help thinking about the fact that I will be moving to the UK in less than a year, hopefully.
-The pogrom against Israelis/Jews in Amsterdam. It's horrific. And as the daughter of a Holocaust survivor, it terrifies me. It makes my move to Europe a little more anxiety filled.

being on vacation during all of this is so surreal
Around people are just going bout as normal while online it's all panic
Even my family, who did vote Harris, don't believe me when I try to warn them of what's going to happen to the economy... And my Aunt was vice president for a Bank of America. She knows what tariffs will do!
I don't if they are trying to minimize things or remain hopeful for my sake, they've been very supportive of me and rightly concerned for my mental state, but it doesn't help to feel like I'm not being heard or told that I'm exaggerating when this is what even calmest and most optimistic economicists are saying this is what will happen..
